Msd 6al?

Want to upgrade my ignition on my 81. Motor is gonna be 1/2 bridged, RB Header, Holley 600cfm carb, RB Holley intake and I was wondering how an MSD 6AL would work. I'm not familiar with this kinda stuff but my friend has a brand new one he says I can have and I was wondering if it was gonna work, I know that the different between the 6A and 6AL is that it has an adjustable rev limiter but will it work nicely on my setup? Please give me your input. Thanks!

Sure the 6AL will be fine. I'm not sure how to set up the rev limiter but on my Autometer tach I had to set it to 4cyl mode for it to function properly. I wouldnt even mess with using the rev limiter cause it wont stop your trailing ign from shutting down. So relying on it is pointless.

I would have to agree with Carl on this one. The Rev Limiter will NOT function without 2 MSD boxes. One for leading and one for trailing. As for getting it, HELL YES! Snag it. It is one of the best upgrades that I have done to my car. Much smoother idle and better Revs. I would also suggest picking up some Blaster coils to go with it. You can use the stock ones, but might as well go all out.

jonjonwells has a very nicely installed setup. If you ask nicely, he might post pics and how to.

Ditto. They made a huge improvement on my idle and top end when I was
running a pig-rich blow-through turbo system too. Get the Blasters too!
