MR2 struts, FRUSTRATION

so got I got my car all apart. Ordered some 1985 first gen Mr2 struts part number 8641-1072SPORT. Go to drop them in as every one says it's a drop in. And THEY DONT FIT. I've come to the conclusion that someone at KONI labeled these wrong.

The cartridge itself is over 1" longer then the OEM strut I pulled out. Comes no where close to fitting the gland nut. Does anyone have the length of the body on hand? The konis I recieved at about 15 1/2". The GSLSE insert is about 13 1/4".

Strut insert you mean.

The entire Toyota Corolla AE86 strut will fit though.

I contacted KONI they confirmed a issue in their end. The body length is supposed to be about 14" and my 15" length tells them it's wrong.

I purchased them through a seller on amazon. I'm working to try to get them swapped. KONI will take care of it but they do not have some in their warehouse and would be a 3 week lead time. Im pressed for time because I have a track day coming up 😳

Man that sucks. I noticed a bit of oil on my Tokico front, was thinking about ordering a set of Konis. Guess I'll wait.

They are close. If you use 85-86.5 Mr2 REAR struts in the front of the first gen you have to grind a little of the nub at the bottom of the strut to fit. Work great car ,handles better then ever

Not the exact same but very close. As mentioned it may be a bit long for an FB strut tube and you need a collar shim to get it to fit the FB strut tops or get some aftermarket adjustable strut tops from someone like T3. On an SA you need to use the FB strut tops and spacer but its not clear they need to be shortened. I have a thread discussing this stuff as well. Its my plan to move to these on the from and KYB AGX adjustable on the rear at some point.

So the MR2 struts would work with the T3 camber plates? That would solve my needs quite nicely as i don't really want coilovers just yet.

As confirmation the KONI Mr2 Strut shaft is smaller than the OEM strut shaft, but a machined bushing solves this issue?

Correct. It's a very thin walled bushing but was fairly easy to make
