Mounting carbs on 13b's
Hey guys/gals,
Just wondering if anyone has run into the same problem as I am and how you got past it. I purchased a Carter AFB (Edelbrock Performer is the same) 625 CFM carb to put on my car. It's a 4 port 13b with a stock intake manifold, and I'm running into a problem.
The mechanical secondaries stick out too far and I can't get the carb on since it hits on the frontplate just below where the coolant inlet is. The picture below shows the area. The car currently has the exact same Carter AFB on it but is a 400 CFM carb. The previous owner managed to cutdown and shorten the throttle shafts so the secondaries don't stick out as far. But this looks like it'd be a serious pain in the ***.
My options as I see it are to
1) figure out how the hell to shorten the shafts,
2) get 2 2" spacers to lift the carb up past the problem area (though this would introduce other issues like air cleaner/hood clearance and moving the power curver),
3) sell it and get a weber ($$)
4) see if I can remove enough material at that spot on the front plate to get the clearance.
Any suggestions?

The carb won't fit on the stock manifold, you need the Racing Beat intake or a spacer. I have a 4port 13b and mine had spacer that was cut to fit the carb.
