Mound vs. Miata
i've also been doing searching regarding replacing my suspension for spring. i wonder if anyone here has experience with using polygraphite bushings. are they just as good as polyurethane and can i use them for the rear as well or should i stick to OEM?
The idler arm bushing is the first thing you should replace if you have slop in the steering. The bushing is about $10 (OEM) and very easy to replace. It's usually fried from the manifold heat, especailly if you are running a header. I just replaced this bushing and my steering is now 100%
fantastic knowledge and advice!
i already have a haynes and a shop manual. the suspension IS my project for the spring. i'm simply researching (and saving) for it all now. i was planning to rent the spring compressor from canadian tire, wanted the experience but maybe i'll consider bringing it to a shop -more research...

I agree, just adjust the steering, tighten it up a bit, and replace bushings, tie-rods, etc... should help quite a bit.. I know mine had tons of play in the steering wheel, put new tie-rods in, and it stopped about 65% of it...
Just a thought

[QUOTE]Bushings and tie rod ends yes.
However....for free you can do the steering box fix. It is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!
I wouldn't be too hasty on the steering box fix. First off, it may not need fixing - every time you adjust that thing, you shorten the life of the box (tightening = more wear and if it was OK to begin with, you are over tightening), especially if you are doing more than the fine tuning with the small adjuster nut. Check the idler arm FIRST - if it is worn or gone (yes, they will actually cook right off the arm), replace it - if you still have trouble after that, go to the box
