motor swap q's

I've searched and can't seem to find a solid answer to this.

If I pick up a GSL-SE with a dead motor, how much work is it to get a S4 NA motor to run in it? I'd like to keep it mostly FB parts. I saw a reference to removing/plugging the emissions stuff on the top of the S4 motor, but if that keeps emissions from working, then it's not a option.

Any old threads cover this in more detail?

Try searching for "s4 13b swap into gsl-se" or "cronicles of a 13b swap" or anytrhing similar..

Actually there is a tread that has detailed pictures ON THIS PAGE.....

Also try searching in the archives I actually have a thread in the archives relating to the wiring.....

No need to be hostile about it. That thread on this page didn't exist when I refreshed the page before posting my question. I have seen the threads about the T2 swaps, but my s4 searches didn't find the NA swaps. I am saving the T2 swap as a option for later.

to put an s4 into your car stick the se front cover, oil pan, oil pickup tube onto the s4 engine.

drop engine into car.

I would use the 2nd gen intake manifolds. they are way better.
you can still use your old efi setup though. just plug the 2ndary injector ports on the lower manifold and run your normal SE injectors.

the rest of the fun will be wiring things together. get wiring diagrams for both cars and make it work.

Thanks for that information.

What is there to wire? It would seem to me not much changes if i use the EFI from the -SE? Only catch I saw so far is in the other thread from today about the EGR valve not having a place to go if using the -SE intake stuff. Also IIRC, the S5 intake manifold is *MUCH* better, but the S4 is only mildly so.

i was refering to wiring if you use s4 manifolds which would be very smart seeing their probably allready attatched to the motor.

some of the wiring may not directly clip.

also you would probably be able to pass smog still if you did it that way....

it would look stock the only differance being, and a smog guy wont notice, is that the 2ndary injectors are missing.

the thought of putting se manifolds on an 2nd gen motor makes me shudder.
there are all kinds of things that could cause minor but annoying problems.

the s5 engine is also much better but you asked about s4 stuff so i was keeping it s4 orientated.

Our smog guys aren't nearly as intense as it seems those in CA are, but thanks for the info on that. I asked about the S4 since it seems easier to find a donor vehicle and a bit more closely related to the -SE (ie no changes needed to the tach).

yep. this is the route i'm going. however if you run the single stage injection from the GSL-SE, you may as well use the ignition from the GSL-SE. if you do that, you won't have to do any custom wiring at all as far as i know.

any recommendations on what i should plug my secondard injector holes with? corks? lol

freeze plugs....
you can allways drill a hole in the and use a slide hammer to remove them later if you want.

so... essentially if you use the SE distributor and figure out vacuum hose locations.. nothing to it? sounds too good to be true..

this is what i've been told my mr. kevin landers... i assume he knows what he's talking about. everybody else i've talked to about it says "yep, that sounds like it should work."

so i'm in mid-attempt. i'll keep y'all updated.

i can't wait to see my engine bay with the FC dynamic chamber sittin' up on top. those are way hotter than the SE ones.
