Motor Swap in-progress need help!

I have been doing a motor swap this weekend from an 80 with a 13b carbed into a 85 GSL with a stock 12a, the first problem was the 13b's oil pressure sensor in the oil pan broke off, so we had to get it out with an Easy-Out. Then the connection cracked at the outer threads, so that is toast without some welding. I thinking of swaping the oil pan from the 12A but I doubt it will fit? The 13b motor looks like a early housing and the 13b stamp says "13B Automobile" any idea what years have that type of stamp? Will a second gen oil pan bolt up?

Another problem is the tranny from the 13b is different and doesn't reach into the proper location for the shifter, it is too short. I didn't want to swap tranny's but I guess I will have to. Are the tranny's all interchangable? If so where is the best place to disconnect other then between the belhousing and the motor? I disconnected all the connections between the tranny casing and it seems to be all gears without a good place to disconnect My 12a tranny has this 1" or more spacer between it and the bellhousing, is this normal?

Thanx alot any input would be great.

You need a GSL-SE oil pan, the 12a or the second gen one will not work. Don't know what year that 13B is from, but since it was already in a first gen, there shouldn't be anything needed for your swap (other than the oil pan since the previous one is no more).

The trannys should bolt up I believe. I'm hoping someone can confirm this though since I'm not positive. If it's just not fitting through the shifter hole, make sure everything is connected correctly. When this happens, is the engine on its mounts and everything? What engine crossmember did you use? If you're trying to use a 12a one you should have problems (it needs to be modified). Hopefully, you took that out of the 80 when you took the 13B out.

As far as the tranny goes, the two are different. Early 7's like '79 and '80 have a sort of standard gearshift placement. The later ones like your '84 have a remote shifter location. I ran into the same thing. My SE had a desroyed tranny when I bought it because the previous owner took the car for a 800 mile drive with no oil in the tranny. I bought a used tranny from some guy, but he didn't know the year. It turn out to be an '80 I think. Well, luckily enough I know a guy that was able to used the shifter and housing of the '84 transmission and the gears of the '80. This was quite a bit of modifications, so you will probably want to go back to your old transmission.

Yes.... the tranny will bolt up, but only if your modify your engine mounts, or use the 13B into a 12A car adapter plate. Of course it would seem you have the SE crossmember, so use that. Any tranny from and NA RX-7 will be able to be used, but with some dificulty, cause like gsl-se addict said, the shifters where made remote on all trannys after 1980. Thats' one I'm not sure how to deal with, though I'm sure its possible.

Just use the tranny that's in the car you want to swap to, they all have the same bolt pattern.
