Exclamation motor problem! Help! GSL-SE

So when i got home tonight, i heard a clunking nosie so i parked it and left it running. i opend the hood and i hear this noise, its comparably to a rod knock sound. but i cant tell if its comming from the motor ot the echaust right in that area and its dark so i cant see if the exhaust is hitting somthing. do rotarys make and "knocking" nosie if they are about to blow? im kind of worried.. any one have any ideas before i panic about somthing that may be no big deal?

it really depends. If it indeed sounds like a rod knock that friggin loud than i would assume its about to kick it. I have never heard a rotary knock or really ping. I have been trying to get people to post videos of knocking pinging cars for awhile. Mine has a small ping at idle but i think its in the exhasut on my setup. But if its that loud its probally doomed post a video on photobucket or you tube with a link here!

are we serious. First we have oh **** my carb is dead in like 8 threads yesterday and now its oh, **** my rotor has potentially spun a bearing!. I think everyone might wanna stop driving for like a couple days haha

yea read the "sounds like a rod knock" thread on the 1st page of the 1st gen forum.

too funny, but not really. Could be time for a rebuild, but seriously read that thread and we can determine more from the info you can provide after reading it.

can try a compression test. Might tell you if youve lost a seal but i dont think its conclusive to a spun bearing.

yeah its in between the e-shaft and transmission. they make noise when the go bad. you basically have to pull the transmission out to change it while you are there i would suggest a new clutch pack as well. if you don't do that you will have the same issues down the road so might as well do it.

I dont think I would freak out just off of what you've described. Does the car start back up now? If it starts does the exhaust smell rich and does the engine look like it wants to jump out? If it does, its possible your leading ignitor went out. Switch the trailing ignitor with the leading (on side of distributor, look up which is which) and see if that smooths things out.
When mine went out it was in traffic and the clunk was my engine starting to run like complete crap!

if its your bearing you should see metal shavings in the oil, IIRC.

the oil will look shiny. run a magnet through it and see if you pick up a lot of small particles.

im having a similar issue, but i think mine is spark related.

Is the 7 starting up normally? Or is it having a hard time?
Don't forget to check your engine and transmission mount.
