well i just to 2 lbs out of the car removed all the wires from the plug behind the drivers seat to the back of the car that i did not need.....now i need to do from that plug to the front of the cabin...already did ony the hood and under the dash

 

Did you take out all the sound deadening material?

Why are you taking out wiring? There's not much back there that you don't need.

 

yeah i took out all the deadening...you say there is not much back there but there is alot i have a gsl..no more power ant., power gas door,power hatch pop, speakers took ou the side markers all in all it came to 2 lbs of wires

 

there is really not much in the car you need most of the wireing can be taken out







the best way to get the soundeadening out is wit ha hammer and a chizel on a colder day so it is brittle when it gets hot it gets real soft and is hard to get out..but when its nice and cold it brakes out in chunks

 

screw a cold day, get some liquid nitrogen or dry ice on there Then just go to town with a chisel. That should do the trick.

 

what's this sound deadening material you're talking about. i originally thought that was the stuff under the carpet that resembles thin fiberglass insulation or something....mine just lifted out. no tar, or sticking, and i sure as hell didn't need a hammer and a chisel. lol

or are you guys talking about the stuff under the bins, and under the fiberglass stuff, that basically seems like its part of the floor...that comes out????? WTF!

 

pull out your seats and the carpet and you'll see what we're talking about. both sides totals about 20lbs from what I've heard. But yeah i think lovintha7 was probably talking about that mat under the bins, that same as you're talking about. We sorta drifted in another direction though...

 

yeah, that's the stuff i took out...i left the front carpet though...just removed the stuff under the bins and the rear....but this stuff lifts right up. i can't imagine having to use a chisel....and my car was quite stock when i got it, i highly doubt the previous owner removed it....or maybe its just in the older cars that have a hard time? mine's an 85 gsl

 

no no no... under the carpet in the front theres this thick tar stuff stuck to the floor. THATs what you need to chisel, not those mats.

 

try removing the glove box and get a light wight steering wheel

and that peace of pipe on the floor in pic #2 has to atlest cost you 3lbs, should move that ;-)

 

Damn, that's some serious weight reduction. Hope this isn't your DD, that or you keep ear plugs in the glove box. I recommend padding the roll bar, a must for the street, good insurance for the track.

 

Remove the window winders, dash support metal, oh and that really heavy handbrake trim....lol

 

there is a tar about 1/8 inch think on the whole floor of the car... check under your spare tire you will see what we are talking about

thanks for the tip...i have a light wight steering wheel going in the car and there is a dash being made to go back. the glove box gives me a place to put stuff
oh and that pipe in the floor bored is the collector for my exhaust it goes from the RB race header and goes 2 into 1 3in all the way back

yes this car is my DD woot love it..yeah padding is on the way im not trying to brake bones on my side bar in the case of a wreck

lol the heavy hand brake trim has lone been gone there are no window winders it had power windows. motors and wiring have been taken out

im iong to try to get the car on some scales some time next week i will lets yous know. how much it weights if you want?

i know my car weighed 2150 without me and my buddy in the car when i measured it on the "do it yourself" scales on the side of the road.
