More Restoration Pics: Front End

I've finished restoring the right side of the front end on my '85 project car. Here are some before and after pictures...I love this stuff I used Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black on all of this stuff except the backing plate...I just used some satin black on that. I found the Extreme Chassis Black a little difficult to work with...it is really sloppy coming out of the nozzle (I used rattle cans) and it took a long time to dry. But it's extremely tough. It survived the strut reassembly process with just a small scratch at the bottom of the spring.

Nice work Rich, now you need to take it back out and freshen up those wheel wells. I like to use the truckbed liner. It cleans up easily and stays cleaner longer than the oem bitumen based undercoating.

Thanks trochoid! Yea, I've been wondering what to do about the wheel wells. But you don't need to take the front end pieces out to take the wheels wells out do you? I haven't looked at the '85 real close, but I took them out of the '79 to replace the badges on the front fenders

If you're refering to the plastic splash panels, they can taken out by themselves. The fun part is getting all of the old undercoating off, If you can get the undercoating super clean, the truck bed liner may stick, but I don't know effective it would be over the long term. I have noticed some peeling on mine in spots where my epoxy basecoat sat for more than 7 days and I didn't get some of the little nooks and crannys scuff sanded enough for a good mechanical bond.

Mineral spirits, paint thinner, even motor oil or diesel fuel/kerosene, will soften the oem undercoating enough to start scraping it off, then finish it up with scotch brite pads. Once all of the oily residue is removed, scuff sand, tack then sparay the bedliner. Rocks and gravel thrown up by the tires will be noisier with the liner than it was with the undercoating.
