More Pics - My Seven at the Dragstrip
Alright, I'm on a roll....
This CRX doesn't know what he's up against:
And only a few feet off the line..... he's smoked!
Can you believe he came back for more?
Representin' the 7...

LOL... it wasn't too hard:p
I love how those CRX guys think 16 second quartermiles are fast... That guy's car was supposedly modified a good bit, but he got SCHOOLED nonetheless. (it was really loud anyways, and loud cars are always powerful right..haha).
So Jimmy, when are we going to St. Thomas?

Very true, that or extremely high compression, ridiculously high revs and race gas. Check out some of the 'all-motor' Hondas in SCC, those things make like 400 horsepower on an n/a 1.8 liter!
But my friend, the same could easily be said for the 12A, if you want serious power, you had better look to a big turbo, supercharger, or those magic letters "13B".

i'm working on procuring a blown 12a and rebuilding it and porting it for some extra kick around town. all these choices for porting have me confused...street port, bridge port, et cetera...
what are (or is there a website that details) the pros and cons of each?
also, since it's carburated, i seem to be very limited in my options for an intake system. i'm thinking a cold air system with some aluminum ducting to the front of the engine bay, duct-taped onto the end of the stock intake...umm...straw. will this have any effect whatsoever? if not, any suggestions on improving my theoretical design?

Well if your cars a daily driver or you drive it a lot the only real port youd wanna use on the street is a Street Port... a REAL Bridge Port or Peripheral Port dont idle below around 3000 or 4000 and there Power Band is even higher... so they arent really that fesible... a Street Port also known as an Extended Port is just a more free flowing stock port and should give you a good 50hp boost with a good intake and exhaust setup, maybe even more dependin on how well tuned you are, It also wont raise the powerband to much and your idle will have to be raised a little bit but not drasticly as with a real bridge or peripheral port..
Thats what I have heard anyways...

Here's a good FAQ on porting:
http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/porting.htm
To get the full benefit of your ported engine, I believe you'll have to either modify your stock Nikki carb (ie. Paul Yaw modified Nikki), or go to an aftermarket carb such as a Dellorto, Weber, Holley, etc. Others in this forum are very knowledgeable about the available options.
The cold air intake thing is a monthly thread here, and everyone has their own opinions.
You won't have the stock air filter canister when you get a better carb, so I don't know about cold air. The best idea I've seen is to cut a hole in the side of the radiator support metal and run a tube right into the area that feeds the rad. I would imagine a hood scoop/ram air setup would be the best though.
Everyone says CAI's are the best, but most also say they noticed no real difference in power. I got the rx7.com intake cover, it's very simple and I can feel a difference. But it's just a band-aid until I get a real carb.

Andrew, give me a shout cause it seems like you are up-to-date with the racing dates. I have a set of aluminum skinnies for the front, and a set of 225/60/14 on stock wheels brand new ready to go. All I need is like 2 days notice to bump the timing and idle, check fluids, add that NOS fuel additive. I'm good to go!! September is fine with me. And the rear bumper modification may happen sooner than expected. I'll probably have the skirt on next time you see the car. If you ever want to hit some back roads a G-Tech the cars let me know. I have some other friends with nice rides that want to block off a street or drive into VR LAND (BOONEYS) and test out they're rides. Keep that in mind and maybe in the coming weeks or so.

We could get the second gen guy from the show and his friends in on it too.

Hey Josh,
Best time was 15.7@87 mph, but with 35psi tire pressure and I hadn't messed with my timing yet. I hope for some better runs next time out.
Mods are below!

Nice kill man.
I was racing a crx yesterday too, however, I got smoked(was driving my corolla). I noticed that every honda that I raced will give black smoke everytime they floor it, maybe trying to remotely keep up with the 7s? hehe
Anyways, me and my friends are alway up for going to the track.
Give me a shout if anything is up.
