Ok, so I got my msd 6al hooked up... after a long battle with many backfires... The thing runs like junk now. I started to take a few closer looks and I have a mitsubishi distributor in there... I am thinking that has something to do with it... If anyone knows anything about using a mitsubishi distributor in a 79 rex, let me know... everything is all *** backwards and wires leading to nowhere... I need help desparately.... Again.

What are you trying to do? Are you trying to setup the direct fire with your MSD box? Did you follow the procedures that are on the FAQ page to do that setup? The info to do the setup on the FAQ page makes this upgrade an easy process. Show some pics of your setup so that we can see what you're trying to do.

mitsubishi make our dizzy's (and alternators too, among many other electronics), so thats not the problem. first off, do you have the original '79 dizzy( the points style) or the later electronic dizzy? the later model electronic ones will have ignitors on the side of the housing ( 2 black boxes w/ "J-109" on them). secondly, are you running it direct fire or is the MSD going through the cap?
