More Flasher Problems

I have some flasher problems that I have seen alot of posts on but still have the problem. I have a 1984 gsl-se

Turn signals work, Hazards Do not Flash at all
Turn Signals do not work with Hazard switch on

I replaced the Flasher Unit (actually the unit and the black relay box it sits on) from a Junkyard pull. I get the Same problem.

All the bulbs are good...

My question?
Is this a common enough problem that the Unit from the Junkyard is bad?

I have the Hayes manual but the wiring diagrams are a but hard to read (The COnnector for instance shows less Pins then the actual unit). With that being said All diagnosis seems to point back to that Box again...

Just checking before I go out and try and find another replacement box....

Thanks

I looked at the schematic for the turn/hazard lights.

I see that the system uses just one flasher (cpu) for both the hazard lights and turn signals. So if either the turn signals OR the hazard lights work then the switch is bad. In your case, it is the hazard switch that is bad.

Also, the hazard switch turns off the turn signals. Even though this part is working for you properly, a close look at the switch reveals that there are 4 electronic switches ganged together inside the 1 physical switch.

Can you find a hazard switch?

All this is a moot point if you have not verified the hazard light fuse though,.....

Thanks for the reply.....
Thats where I get a little confused...

I will look for a Hazard switch replacement... Thats the cluster swicth in the dash to the left of the steering wheel (light retracts, hazards).

Looking at the diagram now is making a little more sense.... I am definatly not getting 12v from that switch. I was also looking at the wrong spot on the diagram for that switch (I was looking at the actual cpu unit)

Thanks for the help

Yes, the cluster switch in the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

Do you have a spare one (to test) available?

No I don't have a spare....Just got my car 2 weeks ago so I have no spare parts yet.
I have one coming from a forum user parting out his car so will have to wait till then. I did check the voltage from the switch (Green/White wire) and its not 12V.. it only goes to 1v...

Do I have to remove the whole dash to remove that switch? or is there a trick to getting it unhooked?

Thanks for the help btw...

At least yours work sometimes, mine hardly ever work. But I can't find a flasher to buy to see if that fixes it. My hazards nor turn signals work. If you happen to figure out what is wrong with it, let us know, i'd be interested in finding out a possible problem.

Will do...
I am pretty sure its my switch as it all seems to make sense now.

Just reiterating what I have done based off of posts in this group

Checked the Fuse
Checked the Bulbs
Replaced the flasher...

Looking back now I would have waited to change the flasher unit (But I was able to pull one in a junk yard for $10 ) as once I got a handle on the wiring from Hayes manual (with some forum help) the voltmeter points to the switch.

I will replace the Switch when I get it and let you know if it fixes it. At that point I will have an extra flasher.

I had Excellent results posting for a flasher in the WTB in this forum .

Good luck

Okay thanks, I really need to get one to see if that solves my issue here, it's about to drive me nuts. I'm a signal ***** as it is and I **** myself of not using turn signals, not to mention the people behind me.
