Monza muffler/ exhaust system?

In response to my question about catalytic converters, several posters warned about Monza mufflers, which is what I have. So I know next time I need to replace----which according to some of the posts may not be too long---- what is the problem with Monza? Will the need to replace be dictated by how loud I can stand it or by corrosion, other?

I have one also... It's isn't great, but it still works. I put it on about a year ago, and it is already quite visibly rusting on the outside. I am not real sure if it has gotten much louder or not. It got a hell of alot louder w/ a Bonez cat,but I doubt that had much to do with the mufler..

How long did the yellow paint stay on yours? I got about 3 hours...

Yep, Corner 3 noted it sounded like a ravenous leaf blower yesterday.

Its's not a problem with just the Monza... most aftermarket mufflers have a tough time coping with the heat generated by a rotary. Most mufflers will desintegrate on the inside and get progressively louder as you use them. Cheaper ones will actually deform. I personaly like RB's PowerPulse muffler if you want quiet and a Mazda muffler if you dont mind loud.

Really? Did it sound louder than you are used to hearing it? It's had that Cat on it ever since I started autocrossing... I thought it sounded louder on the way home, but I figured it was just me...

It had a whoosh kind of turbo type noise to it as you ran down the backstretch its hard to describe, it did sound like a ravenous leaf blower. It did seem louder although at MW you can run a bit harder.

What was your best time? I couldn’t crack the 100 mark……

Hmm... I'll have to see if my muffler is dying.. No big deal, I've got my new one still sitting in the garage.

My fastest time was a 96.2 I think. I had one other run that they never announced my time on, I think the computer ate it. And of course, that run seemed faster than the others. I was just happy that I beat my dad in his new miata (97.xxx)

I ran with my new g-tech too... Just had it set to record lateral G's throughout the course. The best reading I got out of it was 1.02, but I'm very sure my car can't do that.... I loved that course though. I'm most certainly going to do that Evolution driving school out there in March. Man do I need tires first.

I have had a Monza muffler on my rex for about 16 months, still looks like new, no problems. Maybe I have just been lucky? The bad rap on Monza/Pacesetter is the headers. They don't bolt up and don't last, at least that is what I have read.

mine's getting steadily louder. it wasn't too bad 6 months ago, but i'm getting a wee bit tired of being pulled over every week for loud exhaust. then again, my car's quieter than every harley on the road and most of these beat up old v8 pickup trucks.... hmmm, i never see them get pulled over......

Well, after driving my car again this morning, it is most definately louder than it was... but it sounds like most of the sound is coming from the exhaust manifold, not the muffler...

thoughts?
