Those turned out beautifully!

You'll definately have a handful with that 5.0 under the hood. Do a search for 'miata irs swap' to see how hairy a fully done up 5.0 powered RX-7 can be.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I'm actually in the Missoula area (Frenchtown to be exact) Anyway. I've got to hand sand then prime again and see how it looks after that. As soon as I get it painted I'll post some more pics. Thanks again.

Fresh Paint! 3 Hours old!!

So I was able to base coat last night, and avoid most bugs flying around. Let it sit over night and got up at 5am this morning to beat the sun and bugs and clearcoated the car. It came out pretty decent. A couple runs and gnat's but that's about it. Oh and one moth who decided to commit suicide and leave all his moth dust by the driver side quarter window, but only after he wiggled and writhed helplessly covering as much area as possible before I found him and extracted his ***.. All in all it is pretty sharp though I'm happy.
In my opinion silver is one of the best colors for a first gen. Hope you guys are diggin it.

Nice job, really like the suspension work, any more shots of the pan hard?
I was in Missoula 10 days ago, wish I would have known about the project.
Looking forward to seeing the project all done.

My sa's front bumber I lightened. I left all the internal ribs and got rid of the sliders and springs and replaced them with lighter solid mounts. It cut off 14 lbs. I took 22 lbs off of the rear bumber just by getting rid of the " slider tubes and internal plates that bolt in. I made the bumpers so they protrude from the car an inch and a half instead of 3 or 4 inches like stock. It's a gamble as far as impacts go. But if some one hits the car as it is any way its ruined so I went ahead and just did what I wanted. Heres a pic of just everyhting minus the wheels kinda thrown together. I still am going to cut the inner braceing out of the hood also. it will give me more room for my strut tower brace i'm going to make, and knock of 10 lbs or so hopefully. I'll post some more pics of the panhard bar too, for you guys who asked. Thanks for all the comments again.

How are you going to handle the fitment of the rubber bumper end caps to the fenders now that the bumpers have moved a couple of inches? Please post pics when done. I'm thinking of tucking the bumpers on a current SA resto project.

Thanks!

nice job. I see what you mean from the other thread about lightening the aluminum with holes, I stripped the metal boxes and end caps off but didn't cut holes like you did- Nice idea

The bumpers on my car were steel and weighed about 40lbs a piece. Pretty heavy duty. I don't know hhow much the aluminum bumpers weigh but they are pretty thick and one could probably safely drop some poundage off of them too. I'm actually gonna just cut the rubber endcaps to fit and shim them out or something so they are a bit wider and the right angle to fit over the fender again. It should look good. I'll get some pics up later.

Like old fart, I'm about 3x your age. You have nothing to be ashamed of, your work is superb and you can communicate well, unlike most of the younger generation. Your talent is greatly appreciated and renews owns faith in those that are replacing us old farts.

Started building 12a with a 72 RX 2. Liked street sleepers for mountain road racing. Drove a set up track ready 72 RX 2 as a daily driver for about 300,000 miles. Used the car as a test bed and would put all my rebuilds in it for break-in and set up before delivering to customer. Have owned several Gen1s, like them because of their light weight, always a good HP/Wt ratio. Been out of the racing and building for 20 years but still appreciate good work. Doc-Watt, but in the old days it was Wild Bill.
