Modified Nikki carb and inlet

I have recently acquired an excellent modified Nikki carb and inlet which was set up for use on a 12a street ported engine. It has the usual mods of reboring and rejetting to give about 180hp at the flywheel with extended porting

My intention was to get my own engine rebuilt and ported and use the carby. The rebuilder says that the engine, with 60,000 on it, tested as being in perfect condition and not needing a rebuild for some time. Wear on the engine is minimal as once started it is used for long highway runs at around 3000-3500rpm.

My question is whether to fit the modified set-up on the stock engine, which has a good header, exhaust system and air filter? Does the carb set-up need to be detuned? Should I put the carby on the shelf until the engine is more worn?

I assume you will need to rejet for a stock port. But if it is modded for more CFM it should provide a significant improvement over a stock nikki. I guess it is a question of if you want to retune it.

I say slap it in ...test it, if you like it, keep it. Most probably it will run rich...I wouldn't detune it if you don't like it. wait and then port your engine and use it.

Another option: how much are you letting it go for?
