mitsubishi ECUin a first gen?

hey I found this when I was doing some stereo work. Looks like a ECU but it has a Mitsu logo on the front. I have an 83 GSL. Do they all have this. Isit event the ECUor something different.
it was located on above the driverside speaker but towards the fire wall. Near the hole to the enginebay where most of there wires lead.

That's normal, Mitsu has supplied many parts for other makes through the years. They are a big company in the Far East, kind of like GE here. For Mazda at that time the Mitsu electronic brain were more cost effective than building thier own. Mazda did design what they needed of course, but had Mitsu manufacture them. This still goes on today, many components under the hood of Japanese / Korean heck even American cars are made by companies other than the name on the back.

As all car companies, Mazda contracts out much of the components of their cars. Mazda doesn't make electronics, glass, tires, rims, ribber parts, upholstory, or any of seveal thousand other pieces in you car.

In Japan Mitsubishi is a HUGE company that makes EVERYTHING from home electronics, to cars, air conditioners, they own Nikon Cameras, and they even have a couple joint-ventures with Osram lighting of Germany...

Mitsubishi means three diamonds in old Japanese. Mitsu = 3. I wonder why they changed it to san? Maybe less kanji to paint? For that matter, does Nissan mean 23?

Its not old Japanese. Ichi, ni, san, shi, go, etc etc is 1,2,3,4,5 but when talking about how many of something there is or how many objects there are most of the time we say hitotsu, hutatsu, mitsu, yotsu, itsutsu, and so one. I don't know the origins of the name nissan but it doesn't mean 23. All I know is that the nissan name was established in 1934

Then i would say Mazda has the coolest name of them all. The name Mazda comes from the ancient japanese sungod that created the world, Ahuro Mazda!

Maybe this explains the godlike performance of our cars?

one of the many meanings of the word nissan

( besides **** and garbage )

is in the form of O-Nissan, or bigger brother. This is often times shortened to Ni-Chan, or Anekii (both of these are affectionate terms for older brother).

Nissan purcahsed Datsun in the late 60's and soaked up all of there engineers, and knowledge base. prior to that nissans were hot garbage (haven't changed much have they?)

The Datsun 510 and 240Z were pretty cool. How much destructive influence did Nissan exert over them?

Ahura Mazda was actually the god of light of what is present day Iraq, I think. Mazda is not based off of Matsuda appearantly, but when a japanese speaker says it, you can hear it.
