miss when cruising

Alright well.....I'm getting pissed off. For the past week while cruising...actually make it 2 weeks, and now when I'm cruising it's just like missing bad. I just recently put some BR9EIX NGKs in her. I don't know. It's got Accel super stock coils and...........Exact spark plug wires. I retuned the carb. I did everything over Carl from the beginning, to try and fix the skipping. Now I'm not sure if my timing is bumped itself off or what.
Carl I would come to you, but my work and school schedule has been hectic. I'm trying to play bills and still build the car.
Could the wires be shot or what? It only does the skipping or "misfiring" during cruise or deceleration. If you guys can help me out it'd be plenty thankful.

I take it the miss started after the plugs? I had tryed the eix plugs in my se and found a lack of power afterward and some other driveability issues. After putting the stock ngk's
backi in it went away. It is also possible if this has happened after the plugs that you have a defective plug, or one of your wires has gone bad. Recommend ohm check your wires while flexing them, also making sure the connections are tight on both ends and their is no corrosion. normally a misfire occurs under hard acceleration when it is ignition related and fuel related when it is cruising related, and i state that loosley when it comes to our engines. rx7doctor

If it is fuel thats gonna suck. lol. Just redid the fuel system not too long ago. I can check the plugs tomorrow. I might also need wires. Cheap *** piece of *****.

Before you get your undies in a bunch, lol is it more of a surging at a steady speed. What im saying is does it feel like it is doing the speeding/slowing syndrome? rx7doctor

I have to say its ignition related since you have redone your fuel system and tuned the carb. A badly tuned carb will make the engine miss at cruising speed and idle (my car did that for a while). But check your spark plugs, plug wires, coils, ignitors, and distributor cap and rotor. Any one of these parts could be at fault. I suggest starting with the plugs though. Put your old plugs back in if you have them and see if anything changes. If not, then move to plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, coils and lastly ignitors in that order. Chances are the problem is in your leading ignition since there is very little difference even if the trailing plugs don't fire at all. Hope that helps.

some good advice guys. unfortunatley i am having the same problem. it goes blah blah blah @ idle (sounds like a camed out v8, and has less than 9" of vacum. and while cruising it feels like it is boucing off of a revlimiter, and shakes violently, im going to bust out my new multimeter tommarow and check my plug wires.. maybe it needs a little MMO.

but i now its not my fuel system. its all brand new.
actually its started when i installed the FPR. so hmmm.

carl.

I know for a while there after getting my Holley red pump and FPR the needle on my fuel pressure gauge would bounce. Bounce like go from 2.5 all the way to 4.5 extremely fast. Not sure whatthe deal was but hasnt done it lately. weird. Hope you get it figured out.

Not to change the subject;
But Holley's need to be running @ 6PSI at WOT and no lower than 5PSI @ Idle or you will get a Cruise Miss cause your float bowls won't keep a Consistent Fuel Level. Especially if you Run the RB Race Bowls set-up.

I know this one from Past Experience on this Issue!

You never said there was anything wrong with the idle!!!. If its loping like a cammed V8 then it either is running REALLY rich or your timing is WAY off.

WTF are you talking about lol. I'm talking about when I'm cruising. Not at idle.

You still did not state if the problem started after install of plugs?
your fuel pressure regulator could of taken a dump. What you are describing is a/fuel mixture. If the fpr is ok and not letting more than 6psi thru than its time to rejet. Nick at
rotary reliability might be able to help you if you can get him on the phone (good luck) lol.
Otherwise contact mike at Rebello racing. 1-925-754-4871 rx7doctor

well, i checked out my magnacore wire yesterday, and they checked good (1800-1900 ohms per ft), then checked the mag pickup 633ohms (400-1300) still good.

i checked my blaster 2 coils, 0.7 ohms primary across the +/- and 4.75k sec. across the coil and - ..

i reinstalled the msd but ran it threw the cap w/ one blaster 2 coil, and used the other blaster 2 for the trailing. it feels better then it did last week, and no more HIGH RPM 6-7k miss. but at idle it still, lub lub lub. my a/f guage bouces like a FI car. and when i cruise it does the same thing just alot faster.

now ive rebuilt the carb, cleaned it out completely. and still same..

when i installed my lightweight flywheel and clutch about 6months ago. on the drive home it was doing the same thing. i found out that i forgott to tighten the exhaust header down. so i did that and it fixed it. but a little after that, i was driving and went to put the clutch in and i slammed on the brake instead. fun RIDE! wee. but later that day i came out to see that my exhaust was almost laying on the ground. it broke a couple of the mounting ears off. i got it welded back on. i changed the exhaust gasket. and still a problem. now. im going to take the header off and sand it down and see if i can find any leaks in it.

hope this saves you some trouble.

oh yeah, ive also tried some different fuel pressure levels. 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, and 5. all ran the same.

carl.

p.s. changed plugs too..
