Miss me...?

I'm baaack! After 4 months on the road! Whew, my butt's tired! Anyway, I managed to pick up a used left tail light assembly and a used vent solenoid valve for my SE while in Minneapolis (RX7 Heaven, Roseville, MN). Cheap, too!

Funny thing happened to my SE the other day. I had been having some problems with it around 6K RPM. Sometimes it just wouldn't redline, kinda missin' & cutting out. 5th & 6th ports? Ignition? Clogged injectors, maybe? Dunno, never had a chance to really work on it.

I washed the car and engine and, careful as I was, managed to get the dizzy wet. But... it started right up for me, so I decided to take it down the road to dry the engine (any excuse will do!). Man, during acceleration, it misfired, coughed, hiccuped, backfired (true), and afterfired out the exhaust! Once above 4K it started to smooth out. Drop below 4K and accelerate again, it would burp and fart it's way back up and then smooth out again above 4K! WTF?

I went thru that cycle about 4 times on the hiway and, suddenly, it smoothed out and took off like a bat out of hell! Straight to redline! Runs like a raped ape now. 7K in a heartbeat!

Is that weird or what? Musta blown something out of it, ya think?

Great to be back...

Yo... hey don't worry about the washing of the car. I am pretty sure it is something other than the dizzy... maybe the intake flapper door. However, WHENEVER i wash out my engine bay i have teh exact same problem. One time i had to push start it. Under high RPM's it acts like it has too much oil in it... basically barely going at all and almost dies. After about 5 minutes of driving around it always goes away. Maybe a hole in a hose or something i don't know.

It's the dizzy in my case. Usually, I cover it with a plastic bag when I wash the engine. I was lazy this time. Interesting thing is, I think the backfiring actually FIXED my car! You see, I got a couple true backfires (thru the intake) and I think that blew some **** out of the ports, injectors, throttle body, or something - 'cause it runs like a bat out of hell now!

Hey, thanks man. I'm glad those photos weren't lost with the server swap. I see most of the photos we uploaded previously for tutorials have been lost. The archived "TPS Adjustment For Dummies" I wrote no longer has the photos with it and doesn't make near as much sense without them. Too bad they couldn't have been saved. Oh well...
