Mindtrain Stage IV Exhaust System Installed !!!

Hi all,

I spent some time in the garage with my friend tonight, and got the Mindtrain system installed.

Impressions:

1) Loud, Very Loud
2) Engine is way smoother than before
3) More power
4) Tone shows low character and it SOUNDS very difference from a boinger now
5) this system fits tight and solid
6) Overall, feels like a difference car, feels mean

Questions:

Along with ditching bunch of things like the whole stock exhaust, air pump...

1) should I also ditch the shield? Actually, without remove the shield, the system doesn't fit.

2) There is a little wire/hose goes on the pipe after the CAT, I just cut it, but what should I do with it?

3) there is another hose (1" ?) in the engine bay connected to a tube and goes on the CAT, I cut it as well, what should I do with this one?

When I took my car out for a spin, I was picked on by a BMW 325 and a pimped out Cavilier, hehe, I didn't race though

Please give any advise you can, thanks!!!

Xiaonan

The little wire is for the heat sensor. It supposed to tell you when your exhaust is getting dangerously hot. The hose is from ACV. Now that you do not have cats you can remove that and block it off. www.mazdatrix.com sells an Air Control Plate on this page.

There seems to be very little info on the web about Mintrain's products. Where did you get it?

I got the system on ebay, it came with a block off plate and gasket for the ACV. Was I supposed to remove the heat shields? How should I put the exhaust heat sensor back on there?

In addition to the listed impressions, the thotle response is much quicker now, no more sputtering and "weak and constant" back firing, instead some loud and crisp "pows" when I get on it.

Well today I went out and really streched her out, and after couple loud back fires, I started to hear more and more back fires, even when the engine coasting down. Anyone knows what happened? I will tighten the bolts tonight again. Oh, BTW, the loud back fires scared couple Hondas

Get a sound clip of the Mindtrain if you could, I don't think I've ever heard what that system sounds like.

I bought a Mindtrain cat-back off of Brett at RP-Performance a year and a half ago... Great shop to deal with, he's always up front with you, and his service is top-notch.. As to the Mindtrain... What a bitchin' sound!! Like nothing else on the road.. The only problem I had with it was when the mufflers got older, they definitely go LOUD... Cops didn't seem to notice though, which was really cool!! If you don't know what you're looking at, you'd think it was stock...

Mindtrain is the ****! I love my mindtrain system. Now only if they would make it in stainless steel...

But yes, it is by FAR the nicest sounding exhaust I've ever heard on an RX-7. I have the complete system for my 84 SE, and man did it make a difference.

exhaust leaks? my car backfired before I put my RB exhaust on it. It was caused by an exhaust leak. Get those blockoff plates installed! You did use gaskets for your exhaust didn't you?

Yes I did use gaskets, and in fact I needed three colloctor gaskets, but I was running all over in town and could only find two, then I had to spend the extra dollar to buy a whole piece of material and made one myself. I will tighten up the bolts a bit later when I get into the garage. I installed the block off plate where the ACV was as well, but maybe I should cover up the holes left on the carb.

BTW, after I installed the system, I did check exhaust leak, it was nice and tight.

Yeah, it does. On decel, if you leave your foot on the gas just a tiny bit it will backfire real good. It also pops slightly between (just about) every shift. Depeneds on how cool or hot the motor is running, but to make things simple, yes it does backfire. Never really bad enough to make me cringe though, like it used to do before I had this system installed. Christ, I blew a hole in my stock muffler from backfiring.

Zac

BTW, 12As just like to backfire more than 13Bs as a general rule, especially since it's carbed.

HeHe, I started to have a hang on the back fire after yesturday, and exacly like what you are describing. But I got couple pretty loud ones if I floor it and shift... Will that do any damage? Ai~ I need a carb rebuild soon.

One question, what did you do with your heat sensor and shield? Thanks

Dunno about the heat sensor...unless that's the oxygen sensor. Only two things plug into my exhaust, and thats the O2 sensor and 6port tube.

Don't know what you mean by that exactly...

I mean, of course exhaust gets hot, especially on a rotary, but I don't have an exhaust temp gauge or sensor, so I'm not sure. I can tell you it's hot enough to give someone a REALLY good blister, REALLY fast when they accidentally tapped the header after the car had been running. Sorry for the irrelevant information, but again, I'm not sure what you mean. HTH,

Zac

Yeah, that's normal. It's just the system cooling down after it's so hot. Sounds like loud "clicking" right? Don't worry about it I've had mine on for 2 summers already, and it still does it.

BTW, the wire you're talking about is for the "exhaust overheat" sensor... I just tucked mine out of the way...
