mikuni 44

pissing me off! lol. i fixed a lot of broken and missing parts on the mikuni, and ,well, once running,it runs fine, but wont start on her own. i know i need a diff fuel pump and regulator and wires and dist rotor. but would all that cause such hard starts? i mean lacking all that? it still has that horrible bog from idle up to 35oo rpm, when you go wot. i hope a tune up,pump, reg, and gauge will get her going good,oh and the choke, when its running and choked, there is an udible vac leak, and a shot of b12 confirms this as well, any thoughts out there. oh i lost the stupid c clip for the choke assembly trying to put it back on,its kinda hard to compress that spring loaded top piece enough to get it back on,i think ill do it inside next time so as not to lose it again! lol. also last time i got her started with some starter fluid, wich i hate doing,,she kept smoking, idled and ran fine but just white smoke!???

No affiliation, but I've heard good things about Wolf Creek Racing and I have a set of twin Mikunis that will be going on one of these days (had them for almost two years now, just other stuff to do first).

The Mikuni bog sucks for sure. I am still plagued somewhat, but damn it will go if you nurse it past the bog !

i had side drafts on one of my 1st gens and the thing was a pig. it idled at 3100 rpms and wanted wot all the time. keep in mind i had no fuel pressure regulatore on the car. it went like a bat out of hell but needed a lot of attention. im not sure if mine were 44's or 55's cant remember.
i want to build another one but thinking of the duel webber set up.

as for your vac leak, i think that might be a cause for the hard starts. but then again there is a lot more that needs to be looked into.

try taking it to a carb specialist and see if they can figure some of the issues out for you.
