if you take the time to download the tutorial, we explain how to leave both Cruise Control and A/C intact. The print-friendly version saves you $60 worth of printer ink and allows you to keep your keyboard clean

Basically, we recreated a solenoid that had the appropriate leads for the vacuum tubes. It works great.

*edit*

Okay, now that I know you have the tutorial, turn to page... 18 and read from there.

You must be our most-recent donation - you're getting a lot of tech-support for your buck, eh?

Specifically, the items mentioned in the top pic on page 18 should be removed from the cluster and reassembled in a functional manner. If you follow the text and pictures and make them match - you'll have the same setup I do which includes functioning A/C and CC.

I just re-edited the post, so read the last paragraph and since I'm on my way to bed, I'll help you out as I can in the morning.

Great, then you can simply plug that vacuum line instead (the one we have going to the solenoid).

I didn't lie, btw I am in bed - I'm just on my iBook instead of the desktop machine But now - I am going to stop checking the forum/turning this thread into a chat.

Cheers

The removal of the A/C itself isn't covered by the scope of the tutorial and isn't in my realm of experience. Haynes manual of FSM may have information - otherwise, a new thread may draw more attention.

If your removing the A/C then you can remove the condensor (in front of the radiator), the dryer (cannister thingie), the compressor, lines to the firewall and condensor/dryer, and the evaporator (in the pass compartment, but youll have to fashion a duct to replace it).

You talkin about the cable that runs to amotor attached to the left strut tower? Thats the hot start assist, throw it away, far far away!
