My bearings are going out in my 280k mile tranny finally..(tranny whines when in gear or neutral and clutch is engaged) So I'm thinking about a miata tranny, I've done a search and gathered as much info as posible, and from what it sounds like it's just a matter of swapping the bellhousing and tailhousing. I've also read that some machining of the input shaft is necesarry. I also read that wacky has done this swap, and that you can just grind off the bit of the shaft that goes into the pilot bearing? Any help, or pictures of this would be great. This is my DD so I need to fix this problem ASAP. So time is of the essence.
Thanks,
Ken

Why do you want a Miata tranny? Just swap another Stocker back in. If you need better milage, go for a 2nd Gen N/A Tranny. If you need a stronger one, then get a TII tranny.
There's no real advantage to the Miata tranny other than slightly closer gearing.

that's why i wanted the miata tranny... closer gearing. I'm having trouble finding a 12a tranny in decent shape, and I really don't want the 2g gearing... pretty tall, would kill performance.
A local shop did the swap to miata internals then we chopped off the pilot bearing section of the input shaft. In installed this tranny to my bro's mazdaspeed duece when it it had the FD bridgeport motor and the turbo monsterstreerport TII block. Nice shifting with no issues. At ths time, the duece just received a new facelift with a very aggressive port and TII tranny. It will go to my 75 RX-3 when I find time.
