mechanical secondaries a good option?

On my 85 rx7 the secondaries just stay closed at all rpm ranges, Im sure I could fix vacuum leaks or whatever to get them to open correctly, however I am debating whether or not I should just go with mechanical secondaries. does anyone know of a website that gives instructions on how to do it? is it worth it? I know your gas milage goes way down, but how much does it do for performance. Any informaton would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i like it a lot. it doesnt affect my mileage that much, if i stay out of it. it improves the response, but you have to learn throttle control to get the most benefit.

Personally, I highly recommend it. The instructions are located in the FAQ section.

One benefit is that you can actually feel (through the gas pedal) when you are engaging the secondaries because the resistance will increase slightly. My gas mileage is still averaging about 20mpg and I drive pretty hard.

Check out the instructions, its actually pretty easy to do once you understand it. If you have any trouble, post back and I'll try to take some pics...

I am considering this mod myself. I am glad to see This part:
My gas mileage is still averaging about 20mpg and I drive pretty hard.
Cause I tend to drive a little hard at times myself.
Can the cruise and A/C still left in an operatable state with the rats nest removed and mechanical secondaries? They are items I would like to keep operable, for those times I want to take a summertime road trip.

I love it. And it makes a difference if you open them or not, as far as mileage. For the last 3 weeks I have not opened them, and have been shifiting at 3-4k rpm. My mileage DOUBLED! (from 10 to 20 mpg)
