Question Mech. Secondaries question....

Ok,

I have the mech/secs on my car now. I have had them for about a week.

Of course, I notice the obvious change at higher rpms, so I know I'm hooked up properly.

I notice now, that, the car, won't start, if I pull the choke out. I have to let it try to start on it's own, by just turning the key, no gas.

Takes about 5 seconds of holding the key turned to get the engine to fire up. If I give it any gas at fireup, it will die. If I pull the choke out at all, even slightly, it will die.

It seems to need to die 3 quick times, before it will run. Then, it runs fine.

Could this be, because I have no exhaust after the header/collector? Might the engine need that backpressure on start up?

Backpressure is so lame. Or uh what I meant to say was it's probably not a problem (about your missing exhaust pieces). I'd like to mechanize my secondaries now that I've got a Nikki or two to play with, and this problem you're having has probably been solved in the past, so I'm all ears (eyes). Sterling? Anyone?

I can't see how your starting problem could have anything to do with your mech secondaries.

It wouldn't, unless he left something unplugged, or bent something. The actual mod wouldn't have anything to do with the problem, since the secondaries just sit there chillin on startup.

you did not get the choke butterfly connected to the spring when you put it back together.

Nah.....

The choke still functions fine. Once its running properly, I can pull the choke out, and adjust the RPMs higher if need be.

Could it be that I have a vacuum hose loose? Would that cause the odd starts?

The car runs fine after a minute of fiddling with it. I used to have to pull the choke all the way out, turn the key, 2 pumps of the gas, and it would fire right up.

Now, It starts on it's own, without any choke. Would an open vacuum hose play a part in it not needing to choke anymore?

No. But there are electrical solenoids associated with the choke mechanism. You simply must have overlooked something is all. Mechanical secondary operation does not effect the choke or the starting proceedure.

Having said that, I've thought for a secd that it might only if you had been accustomed to holding the pedal all the way down while starting. But with the choke closed, even that should'nt matter.

You're still getting the same squirting of fuel down the primaries when pumping the pedal as you did before.
