True, but you're talking to someone who feels that contemporary rotarys ceased production with the 3rd gen RX7 and the Renesis engine is simply the bastard step-child no one wants because of the body the engine was installed in.

 

Interesting quote trochoid. I find the RX-8 misguided and totally missing the spirit of the rx-7. I guess this is an interesting question to post on another thread but what do the rx-7 fans, especially the first gen enthusiasts, think about the rx-8? My opine: Too heavy, relatively under-powered, scarily unreliable (at least from all accounts). Not too different than the first and second gen Rx-7s come to think about it, but looks like a mazdaspeed6!!!

 

WOW are you serious?!?!? I LOVE the rx-8! HUGE BRAKE ROTORS and those things can take corners like there no tommorow! have you ridden in one??...OMG i love it! And i really don't see it as underpowerd (238 hp from an NA rotary...DAMn thats amazing!)....also the actual engine is NOT whats unreliable, it was the things surrounding it....cough couigh OMP. From what ive read and hear (please correct me if im wrong) but The omp was not giving enough oil to the rotors which in turn made them sieze up. i would so buy on in a heart beat if i had the money to do so. Its new, Its comfortable , its sits 4, it so much fun in AUToX and it was a warranty. how could you go wrong??!??!

 

I wouldn't mind a 6speed, my friend's dad has a grey one. It's quite nice.

 

It's not a new RX-7, it's more like a new RX-2. Looked at that way IMO it's fine.

RX8 opinions for another thread. I'm interested in more info on this seemingly unknown and lost engine.

that would have been one cool motor. We have the rotary to be different and that would make it even more uniquq...would love some more info on it

^ I told you guys that all my literature is back in Oregon. Kim posted up the general diagram of the engine from the info that he has. Unfortuneatly that's all I have to offer at this time. I am trying to see if I can find the location online that I originally got the book from.

I have NO IDEA if Mazda ever built one of these (had never heared of it at all) but I do know Wankel did experiment with different types of engines, based on his rotary concept. Four (and more) sided rotors were just part of it. In the end three sided rotors were complicated enough, but four sided can work.

That's interesting, but from the diagram I saw, wouldn't the Trochoid be more severe? like you see in an oil pump?

Just found this rough CAD(I guess) drawing of the internals.

I doubt Mazda had CAD back then so someone must have guesstimated or have insider knowledge.
Still I would like to know where they hide this baby or if its lost forever.
