Amazing that a few blokes can discuss the whole Asian history without mentioning a first gen in many hundreds of words. Good to finally see someone being able to say something that veers off the FIRST GEN line - WITHOUT getting flamed in the process. . . speaking of the MAZDA logo, (the "m" bird like one) - I saw a Mazda 626 the other day with what looked like a Eunos logo... are 626's Eunos's or what ? . . . and One final "Q" - and excuse my dumbness - Does FORD - "OWN" Mazda and what else do they own?

Ford owns a controlling amount of shares in Mazda, just over a third, IIRC. They don't own the company outright, but have the single greatest stake in it, and thus, the controlling interest.
As for the aftereffects on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the real damage is what happened to the people. There are long reaching genetic consequences to the people living there and birth defects, cancer, etc are abnormally high. That being said, There was no real alternative. At the time, all information pointed to a long drawn out conflict, just like the above posters have stated.
