Maybe blown engine - Need Help

After getting some new tires today, I took my 220k mile 12a rex out for a spirited drive in the country. After reving to 7k in second, i went into 3rd and immediately started getting bucking and shuttering from the whole car, as soon as I slowed down and let off the gas, the engine stalled out and died. I could get it to start back up immediately, just like normal but it would continue to shudder and sound terrible in every gear and neutral. I could get it to go forward if i let off the clutch in first like normal as well, but the shuttering and bucking continued not to mention a huge power loss.

Either way, I had it towed home, as to not incur further damage to the motor.

First of all, do you need to use a specialty compression checker for the engine? or can I use a standard compression checker to check for engine compression.

And secondly, I would like to say that if I did pop a seal, I'm sad but at the same time content with what that engine gave me. Today was a really really good day for driving, and i loved every minute of it. Also, if it does need to be rebuilt, this will give me a chance to learn how to, and more importantly push me into finally getting that TII for her like I've been wanting to.

So, what bare things are needed for a TII swap, I mean minimum to get this car running again.

Part List:

TII Engine
12a tranny (until I get a custom driveshaft made for TII tranny later.)
Harness
GSL-SE Front cover
GSL-SE oil pan
GSL-SE/GSL fmoc and filter mount
GSL-SE omp lines? (or will a tII have them with it.)
perhaps new clutch, the one I have now has a few miles on it.
Fuel system - new pump, injectors, etc. (do I need new hard lines or GSL-SE gas tank?)
Exhaust - What metals do people generally use for TII exhausts in FB's? I know I can use two different mufflers in tandem with varying internal materials, but is there a thickness of metal or certain metal that will last longer.

Any other parts, suggestions would be beneficial.

Ian

found it, thank you. I searched but I guess I did not search correctly.

I'll post the results tomorrow.

I was told by a rotary mechanic to remove the schrader valve when using a regular compression tester. That is the way I do it and my readings are dead on in my GSL-SE. I was getting about 20 psi too low with the schrader valve in, although that write up doesn't say anything about removing the schrader valve.

Well, I did the poor man's compression test, for some reason I can't find my compression tester in the garage. Either way, the rear rotor had definite lower compression comparatively to the the front rotor, which leads me to believe that I probably popped a seal.

Since that's the case, I'm going to go with a 13bt TII this summer which leads me to the other question I initially posted.

I looked through this thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=setzep

And found some information, but most of the web pages linked to no longer exist, and I'll be honest I'm still stumped on some things.

From "andynogo's page" (http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/G...5/webpage.html) He points out that you can use the existing hard line, but to use new fuel lines and a new fuel pump, respectively.
Besides a regulator are there any other things that are necessary for the fuel system to cover my bases initially on this swap.

I have a found a couple engines online I'm looking at that include everything that initially come with a s5 TII. As for as my part list is concerned, I'm curious what parts will I need to make the custom fit.

I want to retain the OMP, so I need the GSL-SE front cover. I know I'll need the oil pan from a GSL-SE. For the front cover, andynogo's page talks about creating a bracket for the front cover...Im guessing he means an oil feed line for the turbo? or a return line?

Sorry if this is all out of order or redundant, its stream of consciousness; I need to get organized.

Sorry for double posting but I wanted to make this information more visible to people with little knowledge of and wanting to accomplish a TII engine swap.

At the top, DirectFreak makes a strong list for the parts necessary for the swap.
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/engine-tii-swap-into-gsl-se-108398/page3/

As I already expected, I knew I needed a lot more than I initially thought. Time to start sourcing parts, and I'll update here when things start rolling along.
