Question Master Cylinder Reservoir

I have an 85 RX7 12A and I'm trying to replace the fluid reservoir onto the Brake Master Cylinder, bought 2 grommets (dealer only, $5 each, but so far unable to squeeze the reservoir, grommets, and master cylinder together!!! I'd use some more muscle, but concerned about damaging the grommets or reservoir. Is there a trick to this??? Any help/thoughts much appreciated.
Thanks.

I tried coating them with brake fluid, then I soaked them over night in brake fluid. Didn't us motor oil, think it would damage internal seals in the Master Cylinder.
