If you make one for the non GSL-SE dash to fit 3 52mm gauges in there instead of a cup holder I'll take one

hehehehehe you must be inundated with people asking for 1 offs !

non-GSL-SE? As far as I was aware, all 84-85 interiors have the same dash (with minor variances for automatics, but that's down in the console)

don't the GSL-SE's have a different centre section to other US models ? ... your dash looks different to the one in my 84 ... mine has the old slider type heater controls

On the drivers side door, open it, there is a tag on the door jamb and it tells you what year car you have..
sounds like an 1983,, with the sliders..
Manntis : machines make the difference,If you can draw
on paper, just a bit of effort and you can use CAD.
I use AutoCAD in my business for the patterns(stained glass) and also do electrical engineering drafting on the side.

A few of the lower end 84-85 cars have slider controls instead of the 'computer' (Mazda's term) control *****.

Mark, I appreciate what you're saying but in the past 3 years I've been focussing on learning all the technical and artistic aspects of being a film director and the politics along with it (not a shallow learning curve, especially that last bit!) Learning a specific program like AutoCAD is a bit beyond my time constraints when for a couple of pennies per part the machine shop takes my chicken scratches and autoCADs up a pattern for me anyhow

Its definetly a 1984 ... i have the paperwork to prove it ... its a UK car and we (like everywhere else) didn't get a new dash design on the MK3's ... we did get the GSL - SE type suspension on all Mk3's though + we gained 15HP from 1980> probably because we never had to run the cats ... my 84 still has the "afterburner" type emissions system (well it does have for a little while longer)

yeah, and over there all of your cars had LSD's and four wheel discs and rear wipers etc. starting in '81, didn't they? only our top line models (GSL and GSL-SE) had that

LSD's were only ever an option in the UK ... but yeah all UK rx7's 1980> had 4 wheel disk brakes and all the electric gear as std. then for the Mk3's they had the uprated suspension , ventilated rear disks and the 14" alloys too

so you have a different interior in the UK then? One that this kit won't fit?

Nuts.

Ok, maybe I'm stupid, but where is the link to buy buy one of these Mantis? The link you put up was just for the picture of one....

edit: nevermind you sent the link to me in the email. DO you have any pictures of the ones with gagues? I just see pictures of the other ones...

Also, what stereo is that? I've been looking for a silver w/ red backlight for awhile and the best I've come up with is the Explod and it's ugly....

It's the Sony MP70, about $500 CDN (I'm guessing $300-350 in the US. Ask DirectFreak, he bought one too)

The cutout for the detachable face should fit pretty much any DF stereo but also leaves room for the Sony's swing-down popout face.

I'm preparing a mockup of the gauge face one (I don't have loose gauges to put in it even though I do have the units themselves)

I could care less about the whole sing down pop-out feature... I just want one that has the silver/red color scheme.

I'm down for one or the other, I'm just trying to decide which... I don't have gauges now, but I was thinking of putting some in anyway.....

If you don't have gauges, the cubby hole one would be more appropriate - it is what the cupholder chassis was originally designed for anyhow, and the cubby lines up nicely with the cupholder drawer and stereo opening.

Dropped my car off at the body shop today for new paint on the bumper and some interior bits, and the tech asked when Mazda started making "them stereo face things"
