Ok guys I need your expertise. I want to make A wanna bee cold air intake, or what ever you call it, I want to use my racing beat carb hood and take the filter out and make something between the cover and make a pipe hope like a 3" going in front of car and put a filter in front of radiator area, get more air in, I got it pictured but need help getting it together,, here is what i got so far.
ill tell you what i did a LONG time ago to make an intake for mine. i had a spare stock air cleaner that was destroyed in an experiment, so i cut the bottom off so it was just the piece that sat on the carb. then i went to the junkyard and got an intake elbow off a buick regal with the 3100 V6 in it. it fit perfect in the "carb adapter" i made, and it was a 90* bend also. then i got an intercooler pipe off a volvo and an air filter and it worked great. here is a crappy ms paint pic of how i did it.
I know this is hard to see, but I used a GSL-SE passenger radiator support and overflow bottle. With this I'm able to put a cold air tube through the factory opening for my 12A engine in the future.
Made this out of 90mm (bout 3½") PVC drain pipe fittings. Had to cut an air filter down to fit in the box. Just needs some big rubber hose to connect the filter box to the carby pipe and i'm away.
Rad support with 90° scoop sticking out for extra air intake

Other side of rad support has 90° pipe running into two circle->square converters joined together to make filter box, with hose reducer on end

90mm 90° pipe fits perfect just inside the carb lip, thickened it up with some tape on the bottom edge so it lined up with the lip then hose clamped it on. Plus the hose reducer.

All comes in a perty black satin finish too (minus a few scratches)

Shop Around
I suggest shopping around the local salvage yard and see what sort of airbox you can find. I used one from an old Buick V6, which had some wierd contours on the top. I smoothed it out and connected it with a rubber elbow which I got from Home Depot (plumbing department), and then used a 3 inch tube going up to the front of the radiator to a K&N filter. Mine is a V8 conversion, but the same ideas should work for the stock carb.

New top secret filter housing under development by Respeed. Should be very "cold air intake" friendly and flow better than anything else out there. I hope to see this available to the public soon.
