Exclamation Major headlight problem

Ok so yesterday my friend and i took out the center console out of my 81 and it has the 2 switches for the rear defroster and the headlights up switch(this does not turn them on)

Hear in lies the problem we left the lights up so i could take the plastic around them off. When the switch was plugged in the lights went down.(inadvertently pinching my finger) i try to turn the lights on and get them up by turn the thing on tyhe column and no success. Theri are no fuses blown and i cna raise them manually with no problems, the lights do not turn on!!!!!!

when either of the switches are put in the off position the light will lower

WHAT THE HECK DO I DOOO!!!!!

Have you checked the fusible links?

they are kinda like an inline fuse...

Go to your battery and follow the positive cables...

a big one will go down to the starter

follow the other smaller ones ...

near the coils you should find the fusible links in the wires

I can't tell you exactly what they look like because mine have been replaced with inline fuses but they shouldn't be too hard to locate...

good luck with that

Good luck mate, been having a bit of trouble with headlights myself at the moment. I turn them on but one goes up and the other goes down, so don't know what the hell is happening there...

In another one of my moments of brilliance I figured out that there was a small range in the motion of the "brights switch" in which both the brights and the normal headlights were turned on...

That lasted approximatly 3 or 4 seconds until all my headlights went out!

This left me to drive to work at dawn with no headlights

God, I felt like a genious LOL

Anyways, after work I checked into the power issue and found it to be one of those fusible links or, in my case, "main fuses"
