LSD and Trans Questions
I was wondering if you can just take the internal gear out of a LSD from a GSL-SE and swap it with a 79's rear gears? Or would it be easier to do a rear end swap?
What would be the best 5 Speed Transmission to replace with a 4 speed out of an 1979 S and do I have to swap the driveshaft as well?
Thanks for the info

The gears from a GSL-SE will work in a '79 pumpkin, no problem. The limited slip diff will not work in a '79, however, since the axle diameter changed starting in '84.
I personally don't like what the LSD does to the handling. If the diff is tight enough to do anything, it causes a nasty corner entry understeer. You basically either plow like a farmer or you have to throw the car sideways just to get the damned thing to turn in. And then there's the way it alters mid-corner "set", and the inability to turn the car around in a parking lot if it's slippery (the car just crabs sideways, extra fun at gas stations)...
The best 5 speed to put in a '79 is from another '79, or an '80. To fit a later 5-speed into your car will require surgery to your floorpan and center console. Plus the shifters in the '81-up cars suck rocks anyway.
