Lowering Springs. Who's got the lowest??????

Like the title says who's got the springs that give lowest ride hight? I have an '83 GSL with Enkie mesh 15". No suspension mods yet. But seems that a 1" drop wouldn't be enough. At least for me. This is daily driver so I don't need coilovers.

Thanks for your time.

king springs are the lowest at 1.5" they are from australia

in my opinion, i'd go coilover, or get springs with a higher spring rate and cut a coil or two.

the rear springs that come from ground control have 5 dead wound coils that you can cut without sacraficing ride quality. the fronts to this set have the coil over spring perch, but you can always mix and match (for example racing beat fronts with a cut coil, and ground control rears cut to your satisfaction)

Lowering/SPrings

I was looking at changing out my springs to lower the car a bit as well. While looking at racing Beat options, I took a look at their Front End Suspension Lowering Kit. The intersting thing is this blurb from their product information. They use a spacer configuration rather than cutting springs. This is why.

"Second, the front suspension roll center is lowered to improve handling still further. However, the key point is that this kit accomplishes its results without reducing front travel. We chose this comparatively difficult way to lower the front and change the geometry (instead of either cutting the stock springs or substituting shorter, stiffer springs) because our tests showed that, with other methods, the front suspension would sometimes bottom out, causing a sudden loss of front suspension traction. We also found that increasing the spring rate significantly at the front of the RX-7 has undesirable consequences in ride comfort and cornering power. We therefore chose extensions with the associated spacers and hardware."

I have not picked up my suspension kit yet, going to do that in the next couple weeks, maybe some ofthe auto crossers could comment on how valid or much of a concern this should be. It would shy me away from cutting springs without more info I guess. Somehting to consider depending on how much handling means to you vs. look.

I think i read somewhere else that there it can cause problems if you try and lower it more than an inch without doing some fabrication.

According to the RB website, you can't drop the front end more than an inch without messing up the shocks. They sell a kit to relocate the top of the shock so you can lower the car more.

Why don't you try the one inch drop and see. My Audi is dropped about an inch, and the frame scrapes on speed bumps. You don't think an inch sounds like much, but it really can be.

I have the discontinued Neuspeed springs. They give a pretty extreme drop.

Yo man thank all you guys for the quik response.
I might try intrax first seeing as soft is ideal for comfort. After all it is a daily driver.

Really appriciate all the responses

I cut my front springs. Frist one coil off the top. lowered about 1/2 inch. Looked good and rode well. Then I wanted lower, soo another coil came off. Whoops. Too much. It rode on the struts and looked like a low rider driving down the street. Luckly I had a 85 parts car.

I recommend cutting one coil, but no more.

Oh and I did mine with a cutoff wheel with the spring still on the car. Boing

If you want it any lower that 1" man you are crazy IMO, at least for a street driven car. If you want something that extreme though you can always purchase custom springs that are tailored for your ride. There are quite a few manufactuers that ask you for information and then they can produce replica ride qualities by shortening the spring and adjusting the spring rate.

I think that they are 170 for the pair at most places. At that oint though I would just go with coil overs
