Unhappy lowered performance

well my 83 gs ran fine until i did a tune up and the MMO treatment. now the car stubles at low rpm's and occasnaly dies when i pull up to an intersection. i think that the jets on the carb are clogged. any other ideas of what it could be?

Did you change the spark plugs after the treatment? They could be fouled.

Yeah, MMO burns off and usually doesn't foul the plugs from my experience.

From the location you describe it could be just some bad O-rings under the oil cooler tower. Check that out and replace them.

The first thing you should do is get a Haynes shop manual. I see them on eBay all the time.

If I were you I'd first start to look for vaccum leaks. There are two likely candidates. First is the anti-afterburn hose. This hose is about 1" in diamter and runs from behind the carb down near exhaust manifold. Over time this hose gets burnt up by heat and fails. If this hose has a hole in it it will do nasty things to your idle.

Second is the Shutter Valve. This is a nasty little device that should really be disabled IMO. Do a search on this forum for Shutter Valve and you will find all sorts of info about how to test and disable it.

Once you have all the vacuum leaks taken care of, crack your Haynes manual and try adjusting the idle and mixture on the carb.

Good luck!
