Loud Squeal. Please help. 2 Questions...

Ok. I got the car running ok. It's a 12A with the RB Holley and a full exhaust. Yes, the same car that I've been requesting help on for the past 2 weeks. I'm slowly getting there! You all have been great and I can't tell you how much I appreciate this board and the people on it!

It drives pretty well and has decent power. Idle is around 1100 rpm, I can't get it lower. Here are a couple of issues:

The choke really isn't working and I have to keep the engine alive until the car warms up. I know it's an automatic choke. Anything I can check on it to make sure it works? The copper tube is wrapped around the exhaust like the instructions said. The choke butterfly valve isn't closing on it's own to enable the choke. I can close it myself with the carb hat off to make it work, but that is the only way. Anything I can check with it?

Also, most importantly, I'm getting a very loud, VERY LOUD, shreek from under the hood. It isn't the belt, as I loosened it and it was still present when the belt wasn't moving. It is really annoying from inside the car and almost painful when the hood is open and your head is in there trying to find the problem. Seems like it's coming from the front part of the engine, more toward the passenger side. What could it be? I searched for vac leaks but was unsuccessful in finding any.

The squeal may be a bad water pump? Look at it and see if there is any coolant coming from the weep hole on it. If so you need to replace it soon.

i know u say it seems to be coming from the front, but try putting ur foot on the clutch pedal and see if it changes pitch or goes away. loosening the belt would have stoped the noise if it was the wp and the belt wasn't moving. this also rules out the alt bearings. i'm assuming that if it has a/c, i loosened that belt too, otherwise it could be the bearings in that pulley.

May be the oscillator. Unplug the little black box up by your left headlight, if it stops that was the problem.
