lost oil pressure...not happy...how screwed am I?

Hello

I got my car running and took it out to start tuning my megasquirt. Engine had a full rebuild (including bearings) and was bridgeported. I took it for a short drive around my area. When I got back home I could hear a slight hissing noise and thats when I saw that I had no oil pressure. I shut the car down of course. I probably drove less than half a mile with the blown line . The car was still driving fine when i got home. But I know that doesnt mean I didnt do any damage. What should i do? Is there any way I can check it out before firing it up again or should I just replace the hoses and hope for the best. I am really pissed off right now as I was told by the guy who made up these hoses that the way he clamped it would easily hold the pressure. If ive blown my freshly rebuilt engine from this project that ive been working on for months I think i might cry. I can only hope my engine builder will sell me back my old e-shaft and rotors for cheap if mine are screwed, not that I can afford another rebuild. Any advice would be appreciated. Would that half mile spell certain doom?

Cheers

Just replace the hoses and fire it up. Observe oil pressure. If it's still the same, you're fine. If it is slightly lower, perhaps a little bit of bearing material 'broke in' but is otherwise ok since the oil pressure will drop over the life of the engine as the bearings wear anyway.

I don't like aftermarket hoses. I prefer stock.

Just an idea, (not sure if my thinking on this is correct,) but you might want to completely change the oil too. My thinking would be that if you lost some pressure and then shut the engine prior to seizure that there would still have been metal-on-metal wear even if it wasn't bad enough to make the engine stop running. Those little metal particles are now floating around in your oil (the way that they do after you've driven the car a few thousand km.) So you could, potentially, have an engine that runs fine with newly worn out oil.

Again, just a theory.

There could be chunks of metal floating inside the engine. I would flush it to be safe.

Well im trying to be optimistic at the moment. Perhaps what Jeff20b said is true and because I have new bearings the wear may not have too much of an effect. I dont need this engine to last 200k miles, I'm using carbon apex seals so its not going to last forever anyway so i'm just hoping it gives me a decent stretch. I am going to change the oil yes, but what would be the best way to flush out the oil system? I guess i should flush out the oil cooler too. The thing is because the hose came off no oil would be going back into the engine after cycling through it so I don't expect there will be any filings in the sump. So ill take out the oil cooler and flush it out and check for filings, but what about filings still in the engine? Should i put oil in the system, crank it a few times and then drain it again? I'm hoping to not find many filings, but thats wishful thinking.
