Lost Key?!?!

Hey guys I have a MAJOR problem!! I lost my key to my RX today! I can't find it anywhere. It's parked at the Wal-Mart parking lot in town and I don't know what to do?! Can a locksmith make me a key or what do I need to do?! Please help! Thanx!

If you have the VIN number and proof of ownership (title, registration etc.) you may be able to have a new key cut at the local Mazda dealership. The last time I asked it was $15. Some people have reported that their local dealership says that our cars are to old for them to look up, but at least it is worth a try.

Try this.... few days ago my mom locked BOTH my keys to the '85 GSL in the hatch and of course it was right after I locked both doors and cranked down the sunroof. I just got the key to the GSL-SE and it worked to unlock the driver door. Funny thing is when I was just playing around the next day and tried to do it again, the same thing didnt work. It just might work for you, who knows?

It's been my experience that just about any of the early 80's Mazda keys will work. I've unlocked my old SE with the key to my wife's base model. I've used my old -SE key, and a key to a friend's 323 on my new -SE.

Correction, I meant to open the hatch or doors...

The ignition has a much better lock...

dang man, could have just got a hanger, and removed the passenger side door lock and took it to a lock smith and got a key made from that... on my FC i used a hanger, got the door open, i couldn't get the passenger window to roll down, but i could get the drivers window down, so i used that one, it was a bit harder for them to make a key cause they didn't have the code the passengers side one has, but they did it for like 25 bux

Hell, most 80s FORD keys alltogether are interchangeable for the doors.

Bummer I should have responded sooner. If you have the touch you can slip a screw driver beneath the door handle and pry up on the rod that links the inside door handle to the manual lock. The lock button just pushes straight up.

The lock cylinders in the driver's door and sometimes the trunk get very loose over the years. It's to the point that my friend Jim's HONDA CRX key can open my door and my trunk.

Just try random car keys you can come up with until you find one that works.

On my Dodge Shadow, if you took a house key and inserted it upside down you could unlock the door...

So anyone who actually thinks locking doors keeps cars safe should get a new set of lock cyls for our 20yr old cars

AFTER you get it unlocked, make a second key and hide it in a magnetic key holder somewhere under the edge of the car, no more problems at Wally World.

Also, if you have a sunroof and you park with it open, you can unlatch it from outside easy!
Even if it's only a crack open, a coathanger is all you need....

My friend had an '85 -SE, the drivers side lock was so worn out that you could unlock it with ANYTHING. A quarter would even unlock it, just put it in the slot and turn

i know on the sa's you can just remove the taillight assembly and then pop the hatch manually, as for my s2, i had problems gettin in it...my lock cylinders are terrible too, i would replace but i want all four locks keyed alike, i like that

well i did lose my key one day, my car was unlocked but i wanted to go somewhere and couldn't turn the ignition...i was about to break out the lock cylinder but i figured that would be a pain in the ***...

i tried all the keys we have, keys to our gsl-se, the keys to my dads sa, the keys to my bros gsl, and the keys to my 2nd gen...NONE WORKED! Then i was just gonna hot wire it real quick but then remembered our f'ing steering wheels lock! I got real lucky though because i gave a friend a key one night to get some movies out of my car that i had left at his house overnight. I gave him a call and he brought by my extra, phew that was a close one! Good thing i remembered that or i would have been out a lock & tumbler for my ignition...

i hate losing keys!!!

ya i'm out the lock and tumbler because my buddy just broke the lock cylinder so i could drive it! I carry a screw driver with me now and just start it with that... but I think I'm gonna go buy a truck tomorrow so the rx might be leaving or becoming the project ride!
