Loss of Power

Going from 3rd into 4th the car hesitates really bad, been told could be clogged secondaries. Anyone have any pics and fixes on this. Also does anyone know where in dallas texas is a good place to have someone look at the engine, believe i have a bad seal, loosing oil between the first two seals. Thanks Kirk

Hesitations at high rpm in the later gears are usually caused by lack of fuel. Could be a clogged fuel filter, inadequate fuel pump, low float level or other carb problem. Changing the fuel filter is a good way to start as they're so cheap.

Proceed like this, and don't go further than what fixes the problem.
First troubleshoot the delivery system- see that there is a hearty fuel flow coming from the inlet hose.
No?- Fuel filter.
Still no?- Check tank breather system. ("Whooshing" sound when opening gas cap indicates problem here.)
Still no?- Fuel pump. (Be sure the relay is not the culprit first before you go buying a pump! The relay can be bypassed.)

Good fuel flow?- Then it's a carb system problem.
Are there wet fuel spots anywhere on the carb? This indicates leaky gaskets. If the carb has'nt been rebuilt, it probably needs it.
Rebuilt recently?- Try tightening things up (DON'T OVER DO IT!!!)
No?- Then it's time to get "into" it. You'll have to at least investigate the two feeder pipes, as the "banjo" plumbing fittings each have a screen.

This Is A PITA!!! Reason being, they incorporate aluminum "crush" sealing washers. It's difficult to get them back together leakproof with used washers. You should loosen (not necessary to completely un-do) the bolt that joins the inlet and return pipes together. This takes tension out of the pipe assembly, and makes for much easier reinstallation.

Treat the screens with great care as they are fragile.

Unhappy new fuel pump, somthing isn't right.

ok, this is related i promise..

my car ,84 gs, has been acting weird the past week and in fact stopped running. everyone was saying it was my ignitors, i don't think so though cause it would run and run GREAT, but then sputter and stall out. now it won't crank at all. i have already replaced everything dealing with the ignition except the coils which my voltmeter shows are still good. now, i had my friend stand over and look in the carb while i tried to start it and saw no gas coming to it at all. i poured a bit of gas in the carb directly, cranked it and it started up beautifully for about 15 seconds until the gas ran out. SOOOO, changed the fuel filter, wasn't the prob, sooooo, i'm where i'm at now. i put a GSL-SE fuel pump in it tonight. i got it all up in there nice and tight, no crimp lines, got power and everything. i turned the key but not all the way and listened to make sure the fuel pump was working, it's coming on, kinda loud, not too bad BUT no fuel delivery!!!!! the fuel filter before it isn't getting any fuel in it at all!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!! i just dont understand, i poured more gas in my tank to make sure it had some, which i already knew it did, but could there be a clog? how can i find out??? help please....
