Loosing my idle!! Need Mechanic in Baltimore MD area

My 85 is starting to have trouble holding an idle and actually has died on me a couple of times when I get to a light and put in the clutch as I brake. My mecnanic has replaced fuel filter, plugs, air filter, distributor cap and rotor as well as checking for vacume leaks and he just finished a carb rebuild. AND IT STILL ISN'T FIXED!!!

Does anyone out there have any other ideas and hopefully the name of a mechanic in the Baltimore/DC area that is an EXPERT on the 1st generation car??

My mechanic is good, but willingly admits to not being a rotary expert. We did all the obvious things that could cause the problem and it sitll is not right (a bit better, but not right). We are thinking that with all the vacume hose in the "rats nest" there could be something he is not familiar with that is screwing things up.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU KNOW A MECHANIC IN MY AREA THAT CAN HELP!!

MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 90k ON IT AND OTHERWISE RUNS LIKE A SWISS WATCH (OK, a SEIKO).

Thanks...Bill

Check the faq for rats nest removal. I am not sure if Maryland is a smog test state, but if it is not then take it out. Lot less BS involved.

Where is the FAQ on RAts Nest??

I have looked on the club site, but I can't find the FAQ you mentioned. I suspect I am going to have to replace all the vacume hoses (Maryland IS a smog test state). I emailed mazdatrix about what hoses to get and how much, but I haven't heard back from them yet. How involved is the process and can I take some of the hoses off without screwing up the car??

Thanks...Bill

I live in Baltimore MD (specifically the towson area) and I also have an 85. I had the same problem when i bought mine. I changed a few things and resolved the problems. I know the last post was a while ago so If your still having trouble I do know a couple guys who can help you out. The guy i bought my car from gave me these two numbers and said they were great with his car...I've never bothered to call them but your welcome to give it a try. Let me know how it goes...-TIM
