Loose gas pedal? Is this normal?

Hey guys was driving into my new apt. the other day and noticed the gas pedal moved a fair ammount side to side...

I went under there with a pen light and couldnt see anythign missing, and i couldnt' determine what was loose. Everything looked right... but it was late at night and i couldn't see very well.

Is this normal? how much can your pedal move side to side?

My pedal moves a ton side to side, and I was wondering the same thing.
My 84 SE's gas pedal probably moves close to 2 inches side to side.
