Looking for some info and to introduce myself

Hey guys, ive been lurking around this site for awhile, i own a 79 first gen, currently undergoing major rebuilding.

Now this car has been sitting outside next to my parents house for about 7 years before i bought it up. It runs, but doesnt pass emmisions (who would have thought?) but thats the least of my issues. I went ahead and ordered up the black dragon auto catalog from VB and started to look around for small items i need to replace but i cant seem to find some minor things.

I need a new center peice, the plate that has all the switches and holds the radio. Also the left hand tail light cracked in half when it was taken off for the paint job. So i am in need of these parts.

I looked around the good and ugly thread for any vendors that might sell these parts but cant seem to find any, i will be doing a 13b conversion later but i kinda want to get the knick nacks all squared away before i make it fast. So any info that might help me would be greatly appriciated. Thanks guys.

You'll find the parts for sale section the best way to locate your items.

There is a replacement center piece made by one of the members which is a nice upgrade for a modern stereo.

Welcome to the site and good luck.

Hint, The search button at the top of the page is the easiest way to find things quickly and without flames....

welcome to the dark side! the SA, especially the 79 can be hard to find parts for. check out www.mazdatrix.com for some parts. also, like aussiesmg said, the for sale section has great opportunities for parts. a guy actually has the parts you are looking for as we speak.

well a big issue was that if anyone mentioned what i typed in it popped it up, so you would get a thread that has nothing to do with the info i was looking for but some guy mentioned that word in it.

none the less i think i got the hang of manipulating the search words to find what i need.

I still don't search much. I read for 6 months on here and a couple other rotary forums before I even registered. It's amazing what you can learn by spending a couple hours a day reading.

I agree - ebay is a particuarly good source for stuff, though the listings can be in the Thousands!! so you need to customize your search so you don't spend a week weeding thru it all. Create your own ebay RX7 link in the Custom Search area of the ebay auction page:
-make sure you set the search up for "RX-7" and "RX7" (!!) or you'll miss half the listings.
An hour cruising the generic RX7 listings will show you a LOT of crap that can be key-word _excluded_ in your custom search - things like "1986"; "86" etc. to punt off all the second and third gen listings. Time well spent since it will make your ebay searchs MUCH quicker...
Also, keep an eye out for dead SA (that's RX speak for 1979-80 model RX7s) cars in your area. I have bought numerous whole cars for $50-100 - and you will get a TON of useful spare bits and pieces. Bone up on the differences between the 79-80 SA vs the FB 1981-85 RXs so you don't get stuck with incorrect parts. Trim items in particular are getting rare-to-none-existent for the SA cars. If you need to buy NEW OEM parts, stick with the wearable items like weather stripping, hoses, gaskets, seals, etc. A really good example of a unique SA part is the rear taillight gaskets - still available and I guarantee when you replace your broken lense, the gasket will disintegrate as you remove it!! Be smart and buy one for each side! Otherwise you can look forward to water leaks back there and lots of rust in the fender wells and spare tire well.
Good luck on owning a neat RX7 model! You'll find the Forum folks here veru helpful-
