my existing tranny (already out of the car) didnt shift right and since they arent that expensive i think i will just buy a new (used) one. i have an 83gs. what other 12A trannys will work? will an SE one work or because its for a 13B will it not line up right for the shifter? thanks in advance.

 

The GSL-SE one will work fine. I think the only difference was a taller 5th gear. It also had a vent cast into the bellhousing which yours may or may not have. Also, there are rumors that the SE trannies are stronger, but I doubt it. I'm sure it's the US version of the 12A turbo trannies in Japan that came out in '83. In other words, the SE tranny is probably as strong as your '83 tranny (probably).
