Looking for an education on carbon seal housings
In my quest for replacement Rotor Housings for my first 12 a rebuild.
I have come across vendor who has a set of "early carbon seal housings" which come with carbon seals
Im trying to learn what this means. IT seems like an older technology. What were the drawbacks? What are the experts opinions on these housings? What challenges will they bring?

They have a program in Canada where they fix the housings up. I'm not sure what they use but you can only use them with carbon apex seals which means you're not going to get as much mileage out of them. Carbon apex seals are meant for racing. They also have the cermet coated housings which are crazy expensive. They also have brand new ones that cost $1625. I believe there is no such thing as carbon housings. Correct me if I'm wroing guys. You're better off getting a nice set of housings from another member on here if they're willing to sell them.

he is probably talking about the pre 74 engines which had the 6mm carbon seals stock.
they dont really interchange with the 74 and later irons, and imo not a good idea to run them with steel seals either
