Looking at buying my 3rd 7 in the past few months

I went and checked out a 7 today. an 83 gsl, I am guessing due the the leather interior, and rear disc breaks. its rusting, comes with 2 sunroofs. It runs. Has about 160 000 kms. Its also an auto. the guy said it stalls out when you put it into gear. Any Ideas what that could be? He is askin 250 CDN for it. I'm thinkin I should jump on it. Any opinions? Ideas? I just gotta come up with the money, I would be rescuing the car from a date with the wrecker. Any ideas on the stalling situation?

My idea on the stalling:
Get it home THEN ponder about it.

I'm an 83 GSL rescuer myself, and mine appears to be in the same status, almost.

Let's see. . . . no leather, but five speed. LSD, Discs, Cruise, the works (other than leather.)

Has some rust, of course (only minimal in the storage bins! Hooray!)

Needed new carburetor (and now needs me to figure out how to slap the carburetor on right )

Currently doesn't run. Bad fender. Cracked taillight. No hood prop rod (oops on my part)

Get this:

I payed SEVEN HUNDRED USD. So, yeah, 250 CDN is a great deal. I guess it depends on the supply of GSL, or first gens period, in your area.

Mine is one of one that I could find for sale in a three city area, in a two year period. So, I'm sure it's worth more than $700 around here!

Probably some vacuum leaks or something with the carb. From my experience, the Auto 1st gens stall out pretty easy. As far as I'm concerned the Automatic in the 1st gens is a pile of junk. My 85 Gs restoration project was an automatic and I'm swapping it to a 5spd. My car stalled out all the time with the automatic in it. Drove me nuts. Even after I fixed ALL my vacuum leaks, hoses, and had the carb rebuilt it would still do it every once in a while. I decided that the tranny was what made the car feel like junk. It was clunky, leaked, and shifted rought. I would imagine more than likely you have a fuel or carb problem since it is an old car and has probably been sitting. The automatic seems to magnify the bad aspects of the car IMO. I think its very hard to get an auto to run right because of all the extra crap that goes along with the auto tranny. 5 spd trannies are more simple, cleaner, and easier to fix and work on.

I would say buy the car though. You should be able to get a nice pile of parts off of it. And that is a pretty good price too! Good luck!
