phenolic spacer (carb thingy?)

OK, I was pretty clueless when I just recently rebuild my first carb...the nikki (so sexy). Anyway, i grabbed this little black thingy and said to myself hmmm...I bet I could scrape off these crappy gaskets and throw on some new ones. After a LOT of sraping, girinding, sanding, and finally polishing, I found out that you aren't suppost to do this.
I threw on new gaskets and sealed them the best I could, put it all back togeather and now I think I have a vacumm leak (the car won't idle or run at anything less than 2000 rpms. I think this is the problem, is there anyway to fix this other than buying a new one? Or does anyone out there have a spare they could throw my way?

Probably a good idea to get a new phenolic spacer. And you most likely *do* have a vacuum leak. But before you do anything else, make sure the leak is at the spacer. There are several ways to find leaks (carb cleaner, propane are two). Have you checked the vacuum hoses? The hose from the rear of the intake mani to the AAB is a prime suspect and will cause lots of problems. Look for a crack or split at the elbow.

Sorry, no spare spacer here. Never seen one in the boneyard either, but I bet someone has one they'd sell. Good luck.

I have found many at the boneyard, but I live here in northern cali. Lots of parts yards. They are very expensive new. What year and make is your car? I am heading to the boneyard this weekend. If I see one, ill sell it to you.

I know that it is a port for a lot of the vacumm hoses to the rats nest...and it keeps the carb cooler from the intake manifolds heat. I believe that the plastic phenolic is highly resistant to heat. Other than that, I don't know. Other than it is a pain in the ***.

Like calvinpaul said, it functions as a spacer, it has the vacuum nipples and it also functions as a heat shield for the carb.

I don't want to jack this thread but I was wondering could you take spare spacers, plug the vacuum ports and stack them like they do for webers and such? Would it affect power or torque in a positive way?
