looking at a 85 GSL have a few questions

I was just wondering what you guys thought of this car and how much its worth. I still need to test drive it and give it a compression test. This brings me to another question, if I have a compression tester for my 88 13b t2 motor will it fit in a 12a motor or is the pitch of the threads different on a 12a? Instead of posting all the pics again here is a link to another thread.

I also looked in the F&Q section but found nothing about what to look for when buying a 1st gen, I would assume its basically the same as when buying a second gen.

look behind the seats at the fender wells, there is a piece of vinyl that comes off and you can see the top part of the fender well, also take a phillips screwdriver and take the storage bins out ( like 6 screws ) and look for rust. if there is rust that is where it will be.

I say look for the typical. White smoke on start up. Drive it and do a hard down shift to see if the clucth is working ok. Look in those storage bins. Mine was perfect under and outside, it still had the rust in the bins.

another place i would definately llok at would be where the rear control arms connect to the body. they can rust through there and cause your car to be junk.......i hve learned that from experience. now i have to buy another rx7. which im not mad cause ive come accross an AMAZING deal on a SA so all is good

Ok I looked at it today and here is the good and the bad

Started up well, took 2 tries but that’s not bad since it has been sitting for a month and it was most likely flooded like every other rx7 in the world. There was very little white smoke out of the exhaust so nothing to worry about. After turning off the chock it held a perfect idle that made the engine sound great. We took it up to 80mph with no hesitation and it hugged the road. I also checked the compression with a shitty *** compressor that works like this.......if it reads 60psi or more it’s good. If the engine had low compression the reader would read 33psi or so.

Now the bad
Button for rear hatch does not work.....no bigy
ac needs to be charged but leaks anyway so what’s the point.....again no biggy
power steering pump is leaking, but he said its not that bad......that is kinda a biggy
and to top it off the front main seal seems to be leaking kinda bad.

I did some research and found out that the seal near the pulleys goes bad so it could be that leaking down. Now that I can change if I have to but if it is the front main seal then I don’t know how big of a job that is. Info needed……..help……
