Look at this bill of sale from 1983 :)
Me and Jermey were stripping a car and we found something interesting in the glove box
$14k in 1983, man Rx-7's were expensive then!

yup, just like FDs were in '95 from the dealership... 1st gen RX-7s are so often thought of as inexpensive cars nowadays we forget that when they were new they were commanding top dollar. These were not low-buck rockets like the original Z.

Kinda funny they went from 7k to 14k just 3 1/2 short years laetr!
Man 14k was a lot of money back then, you could have gotten a new seville for that!

The official costs were $9895 for the S, $10,995 for the GS and $12,595 for the GSL.
Howver you cold spend much more fitting a wide range of options ranging from $695 for leather trim to $200 for a cruise control.
Salesmen usually got special bonuses for persuading buyers to upgrade and even more if it included finance and insurance packeges.
In reality the cars were relatively cheap due to the low value of the yen.
If you wanted a new convertible from Pacific Avatar then the price range was some $25,000 to $45.000 for your stand out RX-7. California sun did not come cheap!

Peejay- because I spend much of my time in remote areas where there is very limited TV but easy access to information by satellite phone, a lap top and the internet. What better thing to do at 1.45 in the morning than surf the net and find out about my favourite car- the gen 1 RX-7.
It also helps to have a Brother who had a new Elford turbo and we had numerous arguments about the relative merits of his Rex and my Lotus.
However, sometimes I think your vast knowledge of the RX comes from the genetic implant of the Works Manual and Parts Fiche. If you were a bit younger I would say being conceived in a 7 resulted in inbedded knowledge!
