So here it is, its the thing 6 looped wires plugged into it, black and gray. I accidentally put the positive to the negative and vice versa on the battery and this thing sparked and spit smoke now the car won't start. What is it?

Those are fusible links. I'm trying to remember, and one is for each headlight, and the 3rd for either the coil or the ECM, can't remember which. Either way, you'll have to fix them.
They take the place of normal fuses. I've read somewhere on the forum that you can replace them by putting in new wires with blade type fuses and the appropriate connectors. Otherwise you have to buy from Mazda or a junkyard.
I'm sure somebody who remembers the details better than me will reply with more detail, however there's no doubt what those are.

the middle one is the "main" If this is your primary (only) car in the meantime you can pull the covering off the link and tie it back together. Seriously, but only do this if you have NO OTHER CHOICE and know what you're doing.

Just go to any auto store and ask for fusible links. They will show you the box links in the same section with other fuses. They are a direct replacement for the old wire links. Just go ahead and swap them all out. Just make sure to know what amp you need for each link.

What amp do I need to get for each link or could I just go by the colors in your pictures?

i was trying this swap today on my gsl-se and i couldn't get the headlights to work with 30 amp fuses, I put a 40 amp one in and they would work, so i guess my question as to why they don't work... I've swapped my original cables with copper, and my ground wire is pretty massive.. could this be why my 30 amps won't work for me?

I don't believe that they blew out. my multimeter blew a fuse so i couldn't test to make sure but from looking in the window of the fuse they looked to be ok. I just stuck my fusible links back in until I get the situation figured out.. Anyone else having this problem?
Here's a pic of my ground wire compared to my power wire.. I know I'm not suppose to have the ground bigger than the power, but if it cranks... =)
