List of symptoms need help

Ok well I have a bunch of things going on and I cant figure out what is going on. I have a gsl,, I took alot of stuff off because I was going to change alot of things around. All in all I didn't really change anything that would be related to my issues. The engine is stock minus exhaust, The carb was off the car for a few months and was dry, so I feel that might be the problem, but anyhow. Also my dizzy cap has a tab broken off on the trailing but I think that is unrealted to the problems. (Im waiting for new cap to come in) Only the trailing is not 100 percent but its still working. I cleaned my Leading plugs before starting the car (by wire brush). The dizzy is locked at 10 degrees for future endevors.

so I go to start my car, it takes a second to turn over and when it does it needs some gas and feathering the gas to keep it going for about 5 seconds. Once it gets going it runs just fine, it revs fine and all and a few minutes after its still warming up the engine starts shuttering and falling on its face. Well after it gets to this point the rpms are dropping and only light taps of gas will keep it up, if I just slam the gas the rpms fall further. Finally it gets to a point where it just wont run at all anymore. so once its dead I try starting it again and it wont start, I take the plugs out a minute after the car dies and they are all black and burnt as could be, less then 10 mins ago they where clean and looked brand new. I cleaned them and tryed starting again and it still doesnt want to start. When I look in the carb after trying to restart gas is above the butterflies in the secondaries. This symptom points to flooding, but why are my plugs fouling out so bad.
And if its flooding why does it start to flood after the car is running for a few minutes.

I have gone through this process several times this weekend, and the same thing always happens.

Any help is much appreciated.

Could it be that your idle mixture is just too rich?

Ill check this out as it does make sense, but is the idle mixture effective after 2k rpm? Cause Im encountering the running problems before I even let the chocke out.

Also, is there any reason this would change from removing and reinstalling this carb? It ran like a champ before I took it off.

Tap on the fuel inlets on the carb. The needle seat is probably sticking.
If you look in the archives you will see all the threads that sterling has done on carb issues.

I looked through sterlings carb threads. Im pretty sure that my float bowl vent solenoid is not hooked up. But before I start the car I plugged the wire in, but what do I do about that open pipe? do I block it or leave it open?

woot I fixed the problem!! Car runs great now. All it was was the fact that the float bowl vent solenoid was not hooked up. Stupid solenoids!

Yea I love that picture because its so depressing, the car really looks like a little kid that gets picked last for kickball.

I'm happy you got her going! Bet your bottom dollar that any adjustment to that mixture screw will effect the air/fuel ratio, no matter what the RPMS are. You don't want to be running lean up top!

I didn't have to touch the idle mixture, it was all that float bowl vent solenoid

The mixture screw only effects the idle circuit.
