List 3 aftermarket parts that you can't get...
for our First Gen. Performance related or other-wise.
1. Carbon-fiber hoods. i recently came to want one bad after my shoddy hood scoop job. I know i can get a fiber-glass hood, but just not a carbon-fiber which would look awesome on an FB.
2. Brake kits. Like a bigger, slotted, drilled rotor would be awesome. Bigger calipers. mmmm....
3. Wheels!!! Our odd offset sucks ***, but if more and more manufacturers would custom drill, that'd be awesome.

1.) Upgraded MAF sensor element... I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that this is not anywhere near the best way of doing this, and more then likely the choke point on the airflow system...
2) Bolt on turbo/ supercharger system?
3) new cams
No matter how hard I look I just can't find 'em for my car...

Yes I am joking... I'm really not stupid, just trying to be funny.
Seriously though.. I'd really love to see a MAF/AFM type upgrade from the stupid barn door...
Maybe be able to get some new crate engines direct instead of everyone scrounging for used parts...
On a side note: I think we definately win out on the availability of aftermarket suspension parts for a reasonable cost. I can't think of any other car that really has more options in that catagory, and that's what these cars were designed for in the beginning anyway... I know that's where my money is going first.

The next bottle neck is the Throttlebody, so opening the AFM is only part of the battle, a complete 2nd gen intake swap would be needed to see any gains.
I got a writeup on the flow specs between 1st and 2nd Gen @

can't you take the whole suspension from a GSL-SE and with a little work, put it on any other 1st gen? Doesn't that turn it into 227mm front disc, 236mm rear disc? I don't know the stock numbers, but swapping the whole suspension from a GSL-SE would solve the bolt problem wouldn't it? Or am I just on crack?
Well, according to my local Schuks (aka checker/kregan) auto supply, they can get crane, and eidelbrock cams for my '84 GSL-SE
3 things I would like to see...
1) MAF upgrade, just to ditch that nasty flap system
2) bolt in IRS
3) a good looking front facia with working brake ducts (looks good to me)

Maybe I'm weird, but use an 1985 GSL as the search criteria.
1. You can get both cross drilled and slotted rotor brake upgrades for both the GSL and GSL-SE. Check with Rotary Performance out of Texas. Last I remember the kits were in the $600 range for front and rear including new pads.
2. As to rims the best option is to upgrade to the GSL-SE suspension - bolt in upgrade from stock. This opens up quite a large selection of rims.
3. Functional brake ducts can be had with at least 2 of the Mariah front air dams/spoilers.
The parts are out there just have to look for them. I agree that they aren't as easy to find for us 1st gen people as they are for the 2nd and 3rd gen folks but they are out there.

kamal_mann is right, the parts are out there. I just wish they were easier to come by. Or cheaper.....but then, that is part of the character of our cars IMHO. If we wanted it easy we would be driving hondas.
As in anything, if you got enough money, anything is possible. Even bolt in Rack&pinion and IRS.......In fact, if you shell out the developmental $costs$, we would probably all buy this stuff from you..........
Hmmmmmmm..............anyone here play the lottery?

- High compression rotors (we can do much better than 9.4:1)
- Aluminum water pump/housing (the stock one weighs a TON!!!)
- Clutch scattershield (not sure on this one, seen it done but wasn't pretty)
There other things that would be nice but aren't really necessary for them to be made by the aftermarket... like oil cooler relocation kits (very vulnerable position IMO, but can be done with -SE or FC stuff) or an alternator relocation kit (put it down where the A/C goes, for more belt wrap around the water pump pulley for after you remove the air pump) or a PMDIDFIS (Pre-Made Dual Ignitor Direct Fire Ignition System)

Maybe I'm missing the point of it being a sports car but i would like to have rear seats. I know they are out there, but they dont come by that easily.
As far as the turbo is concerned, if you get a webber or dellorto IDA or IDLF, whatever they are, you can buy the parts to make install a turbo on it. I think fast freddies and cb performance have all necessary parts to bolt on a turbo.
As for things that might seem necessary;
IRS kit with coil overs
Intake up grade
and higher compression rotors(can you just replace the rotors with 89 - 91 rotors??)
traction control(i miss my celica when it rains)

Your not "suppose" to mix 85 and under with 86 and over housings and rotors due to slight changes in the sizes, whichmay allow rotor to housing contact, OUCH
4 seats? eeew. hehe and a FI turbo conversion would seem to be the more reliable conversion over the carb one.

You can get brembo slotted from http://www.carbotecheng.com/ for $70 a piece.

I'd also like to see an electric water pump.

Actually,
I think we should count ourselves lucky. Name another 22 year old car that has the availability of parts as our first gens. Parts for my 92 Probe have been discontinued by Ford (yes, I know I can use MX6 parts), and it is only ten years old.
But..............I should would love a rack and pinion.

Well, to answer this statement below, alot of awsome but older cars are easy to get parts for still. That is why we can still get parts for the first gens. They are awsome!
As far as the probe goes....... I'm sorry, but they suck.
I would like to see a direct drop in 3 rotor turbo for my GSL-SE.
